Pulsating brake lights

I remember seeing these pulsating brake lights a couple of times (I posted a thread on here about them I thought they were so odd) - instead of having normal brake lights, if the brakes were really slammed on hard the lights would pulse.

I have never ever seen them since - did they never catch on with manufacturers? I'm pretty sure I see enough heavy braking as I commute on the M62

Fitted as standard on the VX insignia I drive, and one or two other makes I have seen them on but can't recall which.

My Astra VXR had them, I think Mercs do also.

I havn't seen any pulsating lights before but the other month a car infront had to do an emergancy stop and his hazzard lights started flashing like mad untill he came to a stop, not sure what the car was i seem to have forgotten lol

BMW call them "Dynamic Brake Lighting" or something.

I thought this was becoming a fairly standard feature that's activated during heavy braking.

Pretty sure I saw them on the latest shape M5 at the Nurburgring last week, I had a serious WTF moment as I'd just let him/her past and approaching the next corner the brake lights went all disco crazy before it diappeared round the corner.

Presumably to worn people to come off the motorway there as the further west you head after Swansea the stranger Wales becomes?

Mercs have them if I am not mistaken.

The hazards on my Citroen flash if you break hard enough, surprisingly it actually takes a lot for them to trigger. It doesn't seem to be so much of how hard you brake but how quickly you press the pedal. I've never actually had them trigger unintentionally and I've only managed to get them to trigger on purpose, once.

This goes back as far as the E46, my 2005 (LED tail lights) has this I believe, it's certainly mentioned in the manual. Although this isnt pulsating, it just lights up more of the LEDs if you slam the brakes on!

It is part of the Emergency brake assist - The Citroens I have had put on the hazards, the last BMWs put on the rear fog lights as well - this one pulses lights and puts on hazards when almost stopped (according to manual downloaded - one in car may be different)

it was really confusing first time the hazards went on due to it, coming round a bend and someone was overtaking going the other way - so of course I braked abruptly - what I didn't know is you can just drive off and car will switch them off for you (just after a brown seat moment is not the best time to handle something else strange). At one point car was forever putting them on - then the garage fixed the brake light switch.

My Z4 has then. Brake hard the flash on and off quickly, brake really hard and swerve like I had to round a numptie the other day and your hazards come on too. Which after my heart stopped going mental I had to turn off manually.

The hazards flashing is now pretty much standard across the VAG range, and you can turn on the brake light pulsing too.

Had a 81 Fiat Strada which had these fitted.

Edit - system was fitted to headlights too.

I think the hazzards flash on the Fiat 500, it's a good idea too.

They also flash on the Alfa Mito, took me by surprise on a test drive jolly round knaresborough as I was finding out the abilities of one a while back...it then became a kind of 'if they're not flashing, I'm not braking hard enough' game for me.

Gave it back to the dealer stinking of brakes and smiling like an idiot, he just laughed and asked if I'd enjoyed myself as he breathed in the smell
