Lost keys - any ideas?

Hi. My missus lost the keys to her 55 plate Suzuki Liana. I posted the replacement key to her which is now lost in the post. I need to get new key - what do I do? The obvious answer is to ask Suzuki but I suspect that will carry a premium. Any ideas? (many thanks for any help).

Pick up a phone, and call your nearest dealer - you may be surprised? Without asking you will never know!

You usually have to buy a new ignition barrel and keys and they will then need programming. Though being a Liana, a bent fork might work.

You trusted RM with the key to your car and to help them out you gave them the address of where it is kept , give it a few days and you'll be needing to speak to your insurance about replacing the whole car not just the locks, thou I would not mention posting the spare key to your mrs.

If you really can't find the key, then you will need to speak to a local garage (does not have to be Suzuki) who will replace all the locks for you, though I suspect you may need to produce the V5 along with some id to prove it is your car.

has she lost just car keys or has she lost other keys too?

Do you have keys cover on you house insurance?

You'll be surprised how cheap replacement keys are. Just go into the dealer with paperwork to the car and order one.

A car as modern as a 2005 Liana, you should be able to order a replacement key from the VIN providing you give them paperwork to prove that it's your car.

Have you checked the steering lock, are the original ones in there and they are just locked inside??

I think you should do nothing, other than offer to pay for the replacement for the key you posted.

Have you thought of emailing "Top Gear"? They might have a spare key from their reasonably priced cars.

Shirley a new key will be reasonably priced.

Can you explain to me why a woman needs a man to find her lost keys or call her dealer about replacing her keys that she lost?

The current Mrs Muppet runs her own car. I didn't choose it for her and I don't get it fixed for her. She seems more than capable of being responsible for her own life.

I certainly wouldn't expect her to run about replacing keys I lost for my car while I sat at home having a cry, that would be pathetic.

The AA will break into the car for you.
The key number can be found on the glove box lock.
Simply order a new one.
That or just supply the chassis no. to Suzuki.

It turns out Suzuki can get a new key for £50 plus vat. The problem is they say I have to get the car to the dealership to get the barrel/immobiliser changed/reprogrammed (£80 plus vat and labour) which seems a bit odd. This will involve a fairly lengthy tow which won't be cheap either.

I wouldn't mention it but I've seen it happen before, don't start towing the car and then suddenly realise you need a key for the steering lock.

I think we have vastly different ideas on marriage!
