No, is the short answer!!

20mpg @ £6 per gallon is already 30ppm, then tyres (7ppm) and insurance and servicing, etc, etc

I'd say a rough average of 15mpg would equate to not much more than 50p per mile. If you were cruising at 60mph 24/7 then it would be better but you wouldnt would you.

around town would be 15/16 mpg
with longer runs avg 20/24 mpg

No. It makes a contribution. Unless you claim the 45p upfront, the difference is only tax relief too.

Saying this, it's better someone makes a contribution rather than you paying the lot wink Treat it as a subsidy.
