3.0ltr Omega Elite tweaking?

To be honest, you could probably squeeze a noticeable extra bit of grunt by:
Better flowing air filter +removing any restrictions in the airbox.
Decat + better flowing exhaust
Upgraded cams
Custom remap for 99RON fuel
All these things together will get some more power, but each thing individually will hardly make any difference (or even make performance slightly worse depending on what the ECU is like on this).

Keep it standard, the last vestige of the mainstream manufacturers making an executive car, i.e. a big wafty barge with all the toys, a decent lump of V6 go and no pretentions of being "Premium", just a nice big car, now people think luxury is DRL's, 19 inch alloys, LCD screens and a Polo badged as an Audi.

I know where you're coming from, they do spaceship mileage, go fairly well for a "barge", well appointed and not (personal view) the ugliest car on the road.Other comments above (certainly +1000BHP) have seen my groin respond but!.. My thinking is that the MV6 variant was, as I understand it, the same lump just chipped which has (approx) 207bhp whereas my standard v6 3.0ltr is only 172bhp or, am I missing something?
Yes, some fatter rims but, need to be careful not to compromise the ride for comfort, having said that, I rarely carry passengers so may come down a tad from 50 section 225's:-)

The same tuning principles as you'd apply to any engine will work equally well on the Omega. However you might have to custom fab some items if you can't buy kits.
Cams are likely to be pricey, but the rest can be done on a somewhat shoe string budget.
Either on it's own or combined with any other mods, this will give you a hefty power boost:

The police ones are called "specials" as they are GLS spec with Xenon headlights and LSD...
All the standard 3.0 cars are 207bhp - the later 3.2 is 217bhp (210 and 220 advertised!)

Just confirmed that mine is indeed 207bhp so, de-cat, Air Filter (where can I find out what to replace with?), plugs (any advice here on what to change too, please?) and Oil (what oil?).
So there it's not a case of a chip that can be changed or re-mapped or whatever the technical jargon is for such a tweak?

You could fab up your own custom induction kit. A generic suitable sized cone filter (K&N) and some tubing off ebay. Remove any sound baffles or restrictions in the stock setup and add in a cold air feed.
However if it works you'll need the ECU remapping to make the most of it and depending on the ECU if the induction works it might make less power with the stock tune. As you need to optimise the a/f ratio and a good induction kit will affect this. Having the ECU mapped to be optimised for 99 octane fuel should also see some improvement too.

By what I'm reading, I'm sensing that I'm not going to get a 'reasonable' return without delving into cam's and de-catting it. I've been having a *conversation* with the wife about my intentions. Her response was; You've had that car for 11 years, why don't you sell it and get a car for yourself that has what you want, rather than mess about with it and reduce the potential buyers for selling it?"... hmm, the discussion developed and ended with a budget of £7k to buy a car and get the Omega sold.... Have to say, I didn't see this coming but, given I bought her an RX for xmas... seems fair enough to me

)People claim to get upto 230bhp with induction and remap. I personally consider this unlikely. There is little difference in performance between the 3.0 and 3.2. The engine has a flaw with regards to major power (forced induction) in that it wasn't designed with sufficent waterways to allow cooling at high temps. That said, it's cheap, readily available and pulls smooth and freely through the revs. Would make an excellent donor engine for a lighter, rwd car. Seen a few in Scimitars and they go well.
