tranferring private plates

Good afternoon fellow PHers!
basically I'm looking to sell my car very soon and wanted to advertise to get an idea of interest. It has a private plate which I would like to tranfer to the next car (although I am in no rush to tranfer). However I would ideally like to sell the car without reverting back to original plate and hassle of editing paperwork (tax disc, MOT certificates etc).
I assume this issue is a common occurence so what would be the easiest way to do this without changing the plate and of course ensuring I still own the rights to the private plate?

As above, you need to remove it and put it on retention or another car before you sell the car it's on.
If you sell the car with it on, it's not yours anymore to take off (unless you find a buyer who will let you).
Takes 7 - 14 days to take off.
Problem is, if you try and sell it with it on and then start telling the buyer you want to do this/that after the sale...they may just walk because it sounds like a lot of hassle...and there's plenty of other cars to buy which won't come with the complication.

Sent off the paperwork to take off our private plate on Sat 8th to the local office. Replacement MOT, tax disc and certificate to get new plates made up arrived on Tues 11th!
Just waiting for the actual retention certificate now (which could take up to four weeks)

I went through this with the last car i bought. The seller "trusted me" to let it happen and it wasn't any hassle at all.Having said that though, I agree it might put potential buyers off because of the perceived difficulties.
Depends how much they want the car tbh.
(agree- my insurance company didn't charge for the no. to be changed twice-old pp-original-my new pp)

It's mainly the headache of waiting for the new v5. In my experience the MOT, tax etc can be done immediately at a DVLA office. Its unlikely anyone would entertain buying a car without a v5 (despite v5 not actually being proof of ownership). I am trying to avoid waiting 3-4 weeks before I can actually sell the car.
