Thought I would share my experience of using this mob today.

Got a brand-new Focus ST on order, sorted out a trade-in deal with the dealership I am ordering the ST through for my current RS. Told the dealership I was advertising my RS privately and they weren't bothered either way so with my ST only a week away I decided to do a webuyanycar quote just out of interest.

They were offering £710 more than the Ford dealership were offering but I'd heard all sorts of stories about them bidding people in the balls once they turned up to sell the car but thought I'd give it a go and if they do start any malarkey then I would just drive away and trade the car into the Ford dealership.

Must also point out that the £710 doesn't include the £74.99 admin fee, plus the extra £24.99 if you want the money put into your account the next working day.

So went online at 1:30pm today & booked an appointment, arrived at their place at 4:15pm (Grangemouth in central Scotland) and their guy Lee explained what would happen, went out for active in the car with me as a passenger, checked all the panels + interior for damage, checked the alloys for kerbs and took measurements of the tyre depths, used a digital paint gauge to check every panel etc - spent a good 12-15 minutes going over the car and all he could fault the car for was a large-ish stone chip on the corner of the front bumper (which I knew was there, wasn't a small chip either) then we went back inside for him to enter all the details onto his system.

They knocked £67 off for the stone chip so I ended up, after all the fees, with a shade over £500 more than I was offered by the Ford garage & apparently the money will be in my account tomorrow.

Ok, they would have knocked off more if the car was in worse condition (there were another couple of very minor marks that he didn't spot, probably because it was pouring down) and the car was only 18 months old with just under 11k on the clock but overall reasonably happy with the whole process.

£67 for a stone chip? That's some chip.

18 months old, 11k - car that can be sold on their pitch.

Try it with an old banger that's only good for auction...

Guy said my car would go to their Manchester auctions next week. They didn't appear to have a 'lot' at the location I visited to retail any cars they purchase, just a very small one-room office inside a business centre.

And the chip was a cracker! It had been touched-in but is still fairly noticeable. My RS is/was the green pearlescent finish so it wouldn't be cheap to do a repair on that corner of the bumper.

I successfully sold them my car for the full offer price after some fighting. The only thing I didn't like was the salesman directing swearwords at me because he hadn't been able to knock the price down and earn commission, his manager wanted the car whether or not the salesman was able to knock me down. I noticed the car was still for sale four months later for less than they had paid me for it.

Sold a family members Chevrolet Matiz via WBAC and it was an easy process, they knocked around £50 for a couple of marks and that was it. Having said that it was less than 3yrs old and in great condition; something easy for them to sell on I suppose.

I think if you are trying to sell something older or a bit different then they are going to kick you in the nuts. They are like cash converters for cars really. I don't understand all the complaints, they are trying to make a profit and you are under no obligation to sell to them after the appraisal.

Reason for going for the ST over the RS is mainly due to the fact I should never have bought the RS in the 1st place! I had a 4-door car (Octavia VRS) that I traded-in for the RS and I have a 4yr old daughter. I thought she would be old enough now to be able to get her in and out the RS easily through the gap in the front seat but its proving to be a nightmare.

I soldiered on with it as previously my daughter was only in my car once a week but now she is at school as of 3 weeks ago I have had to change shift patterns in order to pick her up from school more often and i've already got soaked in the great Scottish summer weather trying to buckle her into her car seat while half-in/half-out of the RS!

ST shouldn't be TOO much of a come-down, 300bhp versus 250bhp, can always think about getting the Mountune kit on it once they annouce packages later in the year.

Out of interest what was their valuation?? I've always found them to be plenty shy of what I could get for the car in a quick private sale!! Think they valued my rs around 16k, I sold it for 19.5!

£21,710 was the valuation. I was offered £21K from two seperate Ford dealers as a trade-in and i'd had my RS advertised privately (only on PH classifieds) for £22,500 with no interest apart from two seperate dealers both offering me £21K for it, plus people wanting swaps with me for an Audi Q7 and a Mitsubishi Evo.

Similar experience for me.

I was offered £10.5k trade in on my Focus ST-2 in February by a dealer and got an offer of £12kish ended up with £11.7k and the tax back.

For all intents and purposes it was a pleasant experience (Bow branch) and whilst I was there the amount of time wasters they dealt with was unbelievable. Swings and roundabouts I think..........
