I am contemplating buying my first car now and it will definitely be in the shed category because of my budget (sub 1000€).

Main use will be going up and done the autobahn covering approximatly 150 miles per week. Those miles will be covered in 2 long runs every weekend basically, high mpg would be nice but is not number one priority.

My search so far revealed that my best bet would probably be a Ford Mondeo from the '90s. Not being familiar with this car I would greatly appreciate any insight into common problems or general tips on what to look out for, if there are in fact any.

Car I have been looking at:

Other alternative suggestions very welcome as well.

You can keep that oh dear, it's going to be an appliance aka shed.

But your suggestion is definitely nicer than a Mondeo I must say! yes

VW Golf MK3?

I use one as my shed, picked it up for £280!

Loads of decent ones about for £400-700. Maybe not the best to drive, but I've always found them reliable. Could stretch to a GTi if you fancied a bit of grunt.

I get about 35MPG from mine on the motorway, 1.6 engine. I imagine the 1.8/2.0 would be similar.
