Opinions / experiences of these?
Seem to be able to get a nice mid-mileage 04/05 CLK500 with all the toys for around £6k which is tempting - once I get the kid-carrier sorted for the wife I might chop the Civic in (and possibly make some money in the process).
Specifically, what are servicing costs like?
I am well aware to look-out for dodgy electrics in this vintage of Mercedes.
This looks lovely:

How do they compare with the CLK 55 AMG W208s? The price differential between them is narrowing. I'm aware of the W208 rust issues, but should people go for a newer CLK or the previous generation W208 with the bigger V8?
I have had both models and had the 209 in diesel guise also. I would recommend the later model for sure irrespective of engine.
The older one is starting to look very dated now (especially from the front lights). Reliability wise though you shouldn't have a problem.
CLK500 will be a gas guzzler - perhaps go for the 320 - one of the best v6 merc engines of recent times. (or if you don't mind a diesel the 320 cdi is awesome) - if petrol cost is not a problem - then the 500! Plenty of options!
