What to do with the RX8s?

Seeing as an RX8 is doing well to have managed 80k there are quite a few now around with blown motors that are uneconomical to repair. Dismantlers are only now paying about £600 for them as there is no shortage and yesterday I was offered one for £500, a 55 plate in otherwise good nick. This particular example has managed just 55k.
They are a great car except for the silly spinny round engine but what would you put in there? I have a Silvia track car with around 400bhp and I'm seriously tempted to plonk the engine and box into this RX8 I've been offered. You need the engine sat right back which also has me considering the v8 from a 540 Beemer.
Any thoughts?

You DO realise that the reason most V8 or V6 cars weight quite a bit is due to the weight of the engine and not the cars materials don't you?
It would weight significantly more than the wankle and I'd bet that the V8 would tear a new arse hole out of the RX8 transmission in no time.

Well they are putting the corvette v8 engine in the RX7. You can buy the lump for around 5k i think shipped from the US, it will most likely be out of the newest Transam, 2003 or newer i think is the best one to get.
Will that fit in the RX8?
That is supposed to be a great fit, is fairly light, and works well.

I't would be easier and cheaper to drop an LS1 in there, they are quite compact for a 5.7L.Will that fit in the RX8?

Imagine going to all that trouble to put the same catastrophically temperamental unit back in..I've considered BMW's 40i engine, but while it's relatively light it is still going to cost you nearly 100kg with its gearbox and ancillaries in tow, and also be far above rated torque on the rest of the transmission.
The most sensible answers, from an engineering point of view, are another more proven rotary, a boxer engine, or a 20vT. These will give you what you're looking for, but without buggering the car's setup as much.
Why do Mazda persist with technology?
Its not as of they've not had a range of decent motors to engineer into one. 2.3 DISI is the obvious choive.

I think for an extra 500. They can port the 231 model (which Never ever make more than 220hp stock). To a genuine dyno proven 250hp
