A green Golf was parked down the road from my car yesterday, outside some houses. As I approached the Golf I saw a note stuck under one of the wipers. It said 'This road is for residents parking only. Do not park here again. Park outside your own house.'

The road in question is a normal residential street with no parking restrictions at all. So why do idiots think they own the road outside their house?

I can only think of one household who could have left this note. They have a work lorry, a diesel Astra and an Impreza that are usually parked in a row where the Golf was on the street (even though they have a garage and driveway). I guess they were miffed that this Golf parked in what they think is their space. Idiots.

I have been quizzed when parking down this road to. I've been asked why I don't park infront of my own house. I just tell them that my car is insured, taxed, has an MOT and is road legal. I can park where there are no restrictions so kindly go away smile.

(I know there is some law about parking on the highway etc)

Has anyone else noticed this behaviour?

Classic middle England terrioriality. Tempting to tell them to do one, but can result in damage to car. Grr.

Accepting that you can of course park where you like, why don't you park closer to your own house? Just curious, as you don't mention why.

You can't think of a single reason why he might not park outside his own house?

I live around the corner on a busy street with yellow lines. Parking not allowed smile

I can think of lots, but it's unlikely that I'll be correct smile

If you can think of lots, it's likely one of them is correct.

Perhaps they don't like green Golfs?

I just don't see the relevance, how it's important. He didn't park outside his own house because, obviously, he wasn't able to. The exact reason is of no importance.

I didn't say it was important. Anyway you seem to want to pick holes in my post and argue, but I CBA, so tootle along and argue with someone else there's a good lad.

sorry, but I think its the height of bad manners to park in front of someone elses house, as far as I am concerned the parking priviledges at the frontage of someones property should morally be given to the householder or their guests, not some tight wad who is most likely avoiding paying parking fees in a nearby carpark.
I wouldnt dream of parking in front of my neighbours houses, unless its for a short period of time in order to take a delivery or carry out work etc...

I'm not picking holes in anything, I just don't understand the relevance at all. My goodness, though, you think you're a comical little one, don't you?

Similar story to what happened around here.
Two cul de sacs linked in the middle by an alley, one cul de sac had restricted parking so people who lived in the restricted parking cul de sac parked in the cul de sac through the alleyway.
This miffed the people who lived in the non restricted parking cul de sac so one night the residents got together and built a brick wall across the alleyway and blocked it off,I'm not joking laugh

I just wish I could find the news article.

There are no car parks around where the Golf was parked. It's not even near the town centre.

The problem here is that the people with the Astra think they own the road. They don't.

I disagree with your post. The road is a public highway. Nobody owns it. If there are no restrictions people can park where they like. It's not bad manners.

If people are that bothered they should buy a house with a driveway.

Have to agree. Unless there really is no other option, it is somewhat inconsiderate to park in front of someone else's house.

Don't forget that the household involved have a driveway and garage that is hardly used.
