One years experience! (Insurance)
Discussion
Hi all, another insurance question if I may? I am 28, been driving 10 years and I have 8 years NCB. I really fancy an Impreza sti. Now I have had an Impreza before but most quotes I'm getting are for over a grand
they all say I need experience in a similar car within the last year!
I reckon if I shop around and I could get it for 6-700 I would bite the bullet and get the beast I crave
but what sort of reduction would I be looking at with this years experience they all bloody want? Could I expect to pay half of the quotes I get at the moment?
I don't mind paying to get on the ladder as it were, but I don't want to waste that money only to get a quote of say 50 pound cheaper next year as long term this is no good!
Any experience with experience?
(Gazes out the window and dreams of an sti)

Why don't you ask the insurers what the difference would be, not us? They're perfectly capable of getting a quote for the situation where you did have the experience they ask for.
Though personally, I think it's time you started talking to decent insurers, not ones who think an Impreza is a wildly dangerous car to a previous Impreza owner.

Yes guys you would of thought it was b
ks but i have rang a fair few of them and they all say the same and no Mcsam they say they can't predict next years price. I suppose I could ring them back and lie to see what they say? Surely some fokes are insuring for the second time this year and have something to add?

A grand is a fair premium for what you want with the limited info you've provided. Why not just compare the meerkats and see what they come up with.
As for the "years experience" b
ks are you talking to a broker from 1973?
I've been asked this question numerous times by 'specialist' insurers over the last few years for both me and the other half to insure a modified Focus ST.As for the "years experience" b
ks are you talking to a broker from 1973?Depends on postcode the quote really but I'm a year younger than you with more no claims (protected), a few performance mods on the ST mentioned before and it's just over £900.
I'm 31 and currently insuring my third Impreza for circa £560 per year as part of a multi-car policy. When I was last shopping around for prices on single car policies they were all £800-1200 and this was 3 years ago so unfortunately the quotes you've been getting probably aren't far out.
Can't comment on the 1 year experience thing as I've not been out of an Impreza for longer than 10 months in the last 9 years!

The meerkats start at a good 1400 quid others simply say they are unable to quote, my postcode starts dy12, maybe it's not the best area!
where's dy12 I've insured tvrs in dy10& 11 even with on street without any bother..ive not heard of brokers loading insurance for not having had similar cars, but i have heard of them refusing.

You've not given a lot to go on, but I just did a quick quote on confused out of curiosity. I did it for my postcode (NR8), and then changed it to yours. No points, bans etc (assuming here). 10k miles a year.
The quotes were coming out at under £700 typically when my postcode was used, but £150 higher with yours. There was one quote from Privilege that came in almost £250 cheaper than the others though, at £606.
Edit...I used a postcode in Bewdley

Try Keith Michaels. Ask to speak with Gary Moulson (be warned, he is a hard man to get hold of). They are excellent, and even better when you want to modify. For the mainstream companies a grand is probably not wildly off pace.
Keith Michaels may ask if you have experience in a performance car, but not nesecarily a Jap turbonutter car...
Epic cars. Mine was running 350bhp and was honestly as mad as a box of frogs... Mental car...
