Car for cira £100, possible?
Discussion
I’ll probably get ridiculed for asking (flame suit already on…) but thought I would ask the question.
When I first passed my driving test 12 years ago I bought a Mk2 fiesta 1.1, against the advice of practically everyone, for the whopping sum of £56 from a local trader. To its credit the car took a load of abuse and lasted the 3 years I was at uni in Kingston. Oh happy days…!
Now I fnd myself in a situation where I may need to get a car to commute from Heathrow to Maidenhead for a new job contract that’ll only last a few months at most, the job is a good one but having a car to get to customer sites will be required, and their offices are nowhere near a train station either.
So, as I don’t really want to spend that much on a car how likely is it I could find something for £100, £200 max. Once the contract has finished I can get rid, or if it goes perm I can move out of heathrow and rent/buy closer to maidenhead (and buy a half decent car too) im not too fussed as to make or model, but obviously would want something Tax/Insurance/petrol friendly as possible
Looking forward to the replies!

It's possible, just not probable. Get on ebay, gumtree and go look at the little card advert things in the local supermarkets and newspaper shops. Might be worth a cheeky call to a few dealers to see if they are getting anything in as part-ex that they just plan to scrap. Scrap values will be your biggest enemy though, most cars are worth more than £100 to the scrap man.
Pretty unlikely nowadays to get something with an MOT....
The scrappage scheme from a few years back killed many bangers.
Plus with global metal prices beginning to soar again (although there has recently been a drop), any scrap car is probably worth around £100 at least as scrap.
You 'might' be really lucky and find a car that needs something dead simple to fix and owner unaware of scrap value....

Cheapest you'll usually find on ebay is £200 with no tax or MOT.

I scrapped a Corrado shell recently, no tailgate, no interior, no mechanical bits, no doors, no sunroof, lights or bumpers. You get the idea yeah? The local scrap yard picked it up for me, and still gave me £65 for it. It's a long shot and what ever you'll get may not be reliable enough to get you to work in the first place. Personally I'd suggest, if you can, get an early A4, they seem to sell for roughly £500-600 with 12 months MOTs.

It did have more than a hint of that. Can't afford to be picky at this end of the market, although seeing some of them I'd be spending a lot more than that just having it chemically cleaned before I sat in it and touched anything.surveyor said:
