Alfa GTV interior...easy to source/replace????

Evening, some of you may have spotted my last thread...

Well after much faffing about and general messing about (including looking at a Black Cab!!) I've been to look at a 2001 Alfa Romeo GTV 2.0L TS today which has been mechanically sorted (all the big bits serviced/replaced) and looks good for the money...

...however the tan interior is worn (as you'd expect in an 11YO car) especially the Drivers seat, gear knob/shroud and drivers door panel.

So PH, anyone know;

• where can I source replacements?
• maybe repaired? (Leeds area)
• Rough prices?

or should I walk on?

Any help appreciated

Is it a leather or cloth interior?

Either can be repaired depending on damage, or whole interiors are easy enough to source - 30 seconds on ebay brought this one up.

Look for cars being broken for spares, breakers yards etc for whole replacements.

There's an excellent Alfa forum that can answer all your Alfa questions and has users that know where parts are and of cars that are getting broken. I think you'd have more luck asking there.

If you look at the classifieds here, there's a red one where the owner has replaced the not so grippy seats with ones from a Porsche. They don't look as Italian as the originals, or like the 348 images in the NSX thread but they may hold you better, but that may not be an issue on your 2.5 mile commute.

There's a chap I used for a few bits for my old 156 in Rossendale, Lancs. He breaks Alfas and has an enormous stock of used Alfa bits. I bought a complete black leather trim for my car, including door cards for £100. Undoubtedly he will be able to help you out with anything you'd want for your GTV. He's a nice chap too, and, as you'd imagine - an absolute Alfa nut.

For all the other Alfas of that era (147/156/GT), you're looking at about £200-300 for a full interior. GTVs might be a bit higher I guess. Ask Loz at Autolusso Bournemouth ( http://www.autolusso-bournemouth.com ), or the main Autolusso near Luton ( http://www.autolusso.co.uk/ ), or ask on Alfaowner. I've seen them shipped about all over the place so Leeds isn't a problem.

Is the leather ripped at all? If it is just cracked, discoloured, or faded, it can often be successfully re-connolised.

For the sake of 2 seats and a set of door cards, there's little point in repairing the leather. As leather trim has always been common in Alfas, there's a plentiful supply of used interiors from breakers. £100 should definitely sort it in my opinion.

You may also want some suspension arms on the cheap as the chances are your car will already need them!

Its more about what this car has had done, its had timing belt done along with front suspension, rear hubs, exhaust, 100,000 full service...and so on...so its looks a more mechanically "known" quantity than most for the price.

Also the TS is a bit cheaper for me to insure.

Finally its a local car. I'm on foot since the crash, which seriously restricts getting to view cars.

Really?

I'd take the V6 for the glorious sound and performance. The busso V6 is however a heavy old lump and it feels it. Fuel consumption is in no way comparable to the TS either.

There worth so little now I wouldn't spend too much unless you're happy to write that money off. We bought one for my other half. 2.0 Lusso with full MOT 6 months tax, new tyres and rear suspension bushes for 600 quid. I'm tempted to fix the odd bits but head has ruled heart so far.

Not sure on that, seems that the market is split into two/three,

• Early GTV's with spotty service and mechanical work to do <£1000
• Mid age GTV's with FSH and the big bits done but some wear £1800>
• Late models/Prestine examples £3500+

The one I'm looking at falls in to Cat.2 but not planning on burning my wallet on it.

Everyone I know of in the alfa circle who bought a 2.0TS GTV (for 'sensible reasons'), have always regretted not going for the V6!

Seriously, try the 3.0 first. With regards to the car itself; I've never owned a GTV; wonderful cars in many respects but not all that pleasant to get on with day-to-day. The ride is particularly harsh, and like most 90s Alfas they have quick rack steering; initially very positive however this misleads you into thinking it will take corners well, when in fact the handling is only so-so. And to top that; the brakes are pretty poor too!

I love Alfas. Always thought the GTV looked an absoulte masterpiece (and still do) but ultimately it disappoints, and so it's one Alfa I've never had. The gtv Spider I wouldn't go near; drove one once and felt my teeth chatter, that car redefines scuttle shake!

Looking forward to reading about and seeing your new acquasition though, what colour is she? Get some photos up asap!
