New Jaguar F Type or Lotus Exige S?

After selling my Caterham recently, I'm now hankering for a fun but fast car that hopefully I'll use a bit more.

I have come up with the two above as they are in the same price bracket and both should be fast as well as fun and represent good residuals over a one year period. Car will be more of a Weekend fun car and I wont be taking it on track, Any thoughts?

Are the actual prices for the Jag out yet?

Impossible to say without driving the Jag really, but I'd imagine the Jag will be much more of a GT than the Elise so I suppose it depends on the length of your weekend journeys and your idea of what's acceptable in terms of NVH.

Been told by a dealer that starting price for F type will be around 58k.

I suspect that the Jaguar after a Caterham would be a disappointment in terms or 'rawness' and outright performance. Definitely Exige judging by your brief.

Lotus have put car production on hold today for 2 weeks so you may have a longish wait for an Exige

Probably not looking at new car till Spring next year.

Jag sounds great on the videos and really prefer the Coupe to the Soft top but that would be a longer wait.

How are the Exige's when it comes to second hand values? Buy for 58k sell after a year for...? I know the Evora takes a hefty dive so I have ruled them out.

Hard to say for the V6 but most Lotus' seem to follow a fairly similar depreciation curve - dropping pretty quickly for the first few years then stabilising so if you're planning on buying new and selling nearly new, the Exige might not be the best bet.

After seeing the pictures, as well as the You tube vid's in the F-type thread, my mind is made up.

Right just have to find out when the first customer cars will be delivered.
