Jet taking off is like 140-150 dB , though this is at a decent distance I believe. If it were 185 dB at the same sort of distance then that is at least about 12 times louder! (3 dB = double the loudness in general terms).

If I remember correctly, 130db at 1 metre is instant, permanent deafness

That is pretty insane, The numbers do not even do that justice I guess.

I cannot help but doubt Mr Green's wisdom in undertaking this extraordinary challenge. It's the "on course and stable" bit which looks tricky.
