Afternoon Everyone

I am looking to change my car in the next couple of months but I have no idea what to get. I currently have a 2002 Seat Leon Cupra which I can honestly say is the most boring and uninvolving car I have ever owned!

I want something that will be pretty nippy and I'm not too fussed about MPG, although if it can manage around 25mpg that would equal what the Leon does. I will look at petrol or diesel and I want to spend around 5 grand.

So what shall I get???

Cheers

Sammo

If what you have now doesn't do it for you, you may struggle for 5k to find something that does. Stretch to an R32?

Maybe something less VAG would be less dull?

Unless you mean the Nissan, in which case £5ks worth of Skyline GTS-t would be constant sideways hilarity.

Surely at the least you'd be able to get a nice:

3 Series
5 Series
MG ZS
MG ZT
Alfa 156
Alfa 147

Etc...?

Yeh I have had a lot of VW's in my time so a change might be nice. I have had a TVR Chimeara, Ford F150 Lightning, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 4 and a VX220 before so although I'm not expecting anything like that, its that sort of thing that it has to compete with frown

Oh I meant to add that I need to be able to use this to get to work!

MG? Bought for pennies but don't they blow head gaskets every week?

Having been a mechanic for a few years I wouldnt go near an MG! We used to get them in every 5 minutes for head gaskets. Bloody nuisance!

Absolutely not. The only engine likely to need a head gasket is the 1.8 which is gutless anyway.

Get a 190 and as long as the belts have been done it'll be grand smile

The revised KV6 engines are very strong and good motors.

You'll know it's only the 1.8 that's affected then!

Not in a ZT it didn't! Which is the range I was reffering too. The 1.8 is the smallest engine size there.

But you're right the K4 engines suffer.

A few sports cars come in (although older ones) at that price. Z3/Z4/S2000/Boxster appeal? All should get 25mpg (I got 29 average in S2000) and are certainly more interesting and fun than a load of eurohatches.

That said, if you need the practicality of a hatch then not so great biggrin

Bit like the Montego turbo... Go alright but not for long! Couple of mates buy them for pence and finish them off on the track.

Nope I have no family to cart around so excessive seating is not required.

I have been pondering over an S2000 but even now the insurance is an absolute killer! It is coming out around £500 more per year to insure than an Z4 for example.

An R32 Skyline would do as a commuter, to your job, which I see from your profile is a car salesman.

If you were selling yourself a car, which car would it be?
