Criteria:-

5 seats
Big boot
40mpg ish on a run
170+bhp
'Sporty' appearance
£10k max
5year old max (to open up some options)

Any suggestions other than the Skud?

Saab 9-3 TTiD Aero 180.

It ticks all those boxes.

Is that the stock answer for a thinly disguised 'What Car' thread.

I was thinking of 3 Caterfields - they will seat 6!!!

You'll struggle to get 40mpg out of a 2.0 TSI Octavia VRS. Highest I've ever seen on a long gentle motorway run is 39. Average is more like 30.

Really? I could get an easy 35mpg out of my old Jabba mapped 1.8T vRS. I know the new one is bigger and faster but surely at least as efficient given the way modern engines have developed.

The 2.0 is, by all accounts, considerably less efficient than the 1.8. Not sure why.

AIUI, Saab Parts is wholly owned by the Swedish government and was not part of the bankruptcy. There is a subsidiary of that now established in the UK.

I'd be really tempted by something like

I understand the bork potential is high, but the price is low, the spec high, and I think they're great looking cars. Don't see many around!
