I was driving today and spotted a Vauxhall GTE of late 80's vintage.
Now this car came with a fine redtop 2 litre gem of an engine but somehow is unloved and a once cluttering the roads car is now a rare car.

Why is it uncared for?

Are there other cars that deserve a following but dont have?

Lets face it Beetles are horrible cars but loved!!!

Very good point. Same with the Astra GSi that followed it.

Where have they gone?

Understeered off the road in a ball of flames.

I think the people that own them now tend to love them. ( see Readers Cars ) .
A lot of them were plundered for the engines plus the media stories from some quarters that they didn't "handle"

I think most old vauxhalls are massively under appreciated compared similar aged fords,i had a mk 1 cavalier, very pretty and nice driving car but no where near as loved as equivalent cortinas.

I'll throw in the mk3 honda prelude, smart looks, pop up headlights and 4 wheel steering and 150bhp on the fuel injected models all in an uber reliable package but a car thats almost forgotten today.
