What car for a bad driver!

This year has not been a good year car wise for me.

I picked up a SP50 (3 points) and a fine for using my phone (3 points), I also wrote off my Elan.

So I need a car that is pretty good on insurance, I'm 25 and live in a reasonable postcode.

I have £3200 to spend including insurance.

To give you an idea of insurance quotes, I've been getting the following:

Audi TT 225: £932
Clio 172: £961
Renault Avantime £940
Classic Mini £320
BMW 728i Sport £966

I'd like something a bit unusual, low bork and ideally with cruise control.

I only do about 12k miles a year so fuel economy isn't a huge issue, however double figures would be ideal!

Any ideas?

Isn't the bork factor quite high?

Plus I know that I would just get it stuck in a field.

If you want to avoid more points and bork, then the Classic Mini is the only one on that list that suits.

I'd like to avoid a car that I will look like a pillock in, something with a little bit of street cred?

I don't need something slow to avoid points, I'll get bluetooth and try and regulate my right foot a bit better.

Something with an auto box. Makes for more relaxed driving.

I'd look out for an older Volvo S60.. Nice car, do 2.3/2.4 turbos so won't be short of some go.

OP: what about a barge - E39 528i for example?

If you find a good post 1998 one ideally with a manual gearbox (or if auto, an ATF change at some point), some cooling system work in the history, fairly free of rust, and a good service history you could be on to a winner.

They pop up in the barge thread occasionally, worth a look

Good idea but you're thinking too small:

The Jag will relax you enough to slow down and if driven carefully a steel car can manage over 30mpg. I gather the Lexus is a pretty calm environment too though I've never driven one.
