I've got a very problematic Toyota Celica 190. The head gasket went in a way that meant the engine slightly pressurised the coolant system. Despite better judgement we decided to save the car and have the work done by our local Toyota dealer to ensure good quality and avoid any complications were there to be any problems.

I had the work done in April this year and about 4 weeks ago I noticed the rebuilt top end was particularly noisy and that there was an odd exhaust note around 4500 rpm. Suspecting a potential problem with Toyotas (Aylesbury Steven Eagell) work I bunged the car back at them and told them to take a gandas. Several days later they contacted me to basically stonewall me on the subject. They say that its not their problem or their work as the car has just hit 100k and what do I expect from an engine with that mileage. They weren't even prepared to strip the head and take a look unless I paid again for any work they did. I was livid and walked away.

Now a couple of weeks on the head gasket has totally failed and I need to get ideas on how to proceed. I haven't gone in there all guns blazing yet as I might make an error in anger. I'm massively out of pocket and am now without a car too. Are the garage liable to do the work or am I barking up the wrong tree and need to take it on the chin and put it down to experience?

If they replaced the head gasket and the gasket has gone again then yes they are liable. They will squirm and suggest that its not their fault. keep on at them but you do need to be very sure on what the fault is.
