Am I the only one that does this?!
Discussion
Much to the girlfriends annoyance whenever we arrive somewhere and I need to park up I either park miles away from other cars, and if that isn't an option then I drive around looking for the "best" spot, be it one at an end so only one car can park next to me, or I look for the best looking car in the car park and park next to that.
This drives her insane every time without fail, she on the other hand parks as close as possible to where she's going to and doesn't put as much thought into it as I do.
I imagine I'm probably in a small minority of drivers lol

No.
I was meeting the wife at Ikea last night. Parked up well away from the exit and the car park in general was very quiet. I decided to sit and wait in the car listening to Radio 4. Within about 10 minutes of getting there, two bangers full of idiot students pulled up on my left hand side before wandering off to the store. Then some old bloke in a Golf pulls up on my right!
I was less than pleased, trying to park in a quite place as my car fill easily fill/overhang a bay so I try to keep it away from the fecklessness of others. These goons must have just seen my car and decided to home in on it to allow them to park (to save paint, the bays at Ikea just have 'T' markers at the top but not a full line painted in, some people struggle to park straight in bays like this!). This is in a car park whcih was maybe at 10% capacity, hundreds of spaces closer to the store still free.
I started the car and drove away to another corner of the car park, where luckily I was not disturbed.

Depends on the car... which is half the reason I bought the current daily driver. It came pre-dented and scratched so now I just park wherever is free and if somebody wants to dent the doors, best of luck to you and I can only hope the mighty Swedish pig iron it's crafted from means their doors are deformed well before mine dent. The other cars, that's a differnet story... and that brings me on to another wee story, Sunday, Inverness Burger King and chaos is in progress and a chap parks a black 61 plate aston in the middle of it and merrily wanders off to another shop. Even I was sweating and I was at inside having an XL double heart attack burger with fries.
As said, I don't think you'll be a minority here. I do the same. Sometimes I'll park next to a nice car so that I can have a cheeky look at it, interior included, once I've parked up. I also like to think that I'm very considerate, so I'd park next to the nice car to prevent someone else possibly parking next to it and dinging it.

My golden rule is never park next to a people carrier
Or a 4x4. In the mornings when I park up near work I leave a big gap (bays aren't marked) and will sit in the car til the space next to me is occupied, just to make sure.
Ferries are worst - especially when the cars are very close to the side of the next "lane". There's very little room and people will be heading for the car deck doors with bags and cases etc. I sit in the car giving everyone filthy looks until I'm the last person on the deck. Amazingly, even though I do this people still drag bags up the side of the car, bang my mirrors etc, all despite my withering stare!
