£27 of petrol and £66 of diesel in the car?

I'm sure this has been posted before, but my wife (honest) has just put £27 of petrol in the car before realising her mistake and filling up with diesel. She has then driven about two miles home and it sounds 'deeper' than normal (2.4 d5 Volvo). Is this a problem or will it be ok?

Probably not good news.

Driving it is a bad idea it will have too be taken to a garage for an inspection to see what damage has been done.

Don't run it again under any circumstances!

Why would you put in the diesel afterwards? Just more to get out again!

Doubt it, get the tank drained and the system flushed and hope nothing goes wrong!

Waste of 66 quids worth of diesel though!

Thats going to be expensive. If she hadn't driven it, you would have just got away with draining the tank.

Unfortunately you'll probably need to flush the entire system and your injectors could be buggered which is very pricey.

Odd your filler doesn't block petrol nossels. My thick as two short planks ex tried to do exactly this with my brand new 1 series but the hose wouldn't go in as it has a built in system blocking petrol nossels. Diesel hoses a little bigger than petrol nossels.

The diesel hole is bigger than the petrol nozzle, so petrol in a diesel easy. Diesel in a petrol requires special effort.

If you do need injectors I got one from here for my previous D5 engined V70.

Volvo say you are supposed to use all new pipes but you can reuse the old ones. They are near £300 per injector from Volvo!

Conversely, my neighbour drove her diesel around 5 miles on unleaded / diesel mix and having had it flushed for her, it's fine.

It's a modern car so throw money at it. And replace all the things.

I would drive it and fill up with Diesel as and when the level drops.
£27 is only about 4 gallons.

Doesn't unleaded sit on top of diesel usually? Could just syphon the unleaded off, top up with diesel and give it a whirl?

It mixes very nicely indeed.

Drain the tank and then fill it up and hope for the best. Any damage that you could have done to the system will already be done and any repairs will involve draining the tank and filling with diesel anyway.. so start with that and go from there. Chances are it will be fine.
