Getting bored of my car.....help?!
Discussion
I've got a 2004 2.0T Saab 9-3 Convertible, and I'm starting to get bored of it.
Simple matter is I can't afford to change it yet.
It's a great car, quick and good on fuel so I don't have an issue with performance - just that I've had it a few years now.
It's always dirty and the roof is covered in cat hairs; inside looks like one of my building sites' mess huts; the plastic bits are going grey and the CD player has a novelty 80's pop CD stuck in it.....
Will a good valet sort this out for me and make it feel new again? Or am I going to have to look at a few upgrades, tweaks and facelift modifications?
Pics below as it stood a couple of years ago (probably when I last cleaned it)...

Apologies if this sounds mean, but (as the old proverb goes) you can't polish a turd.
If you're bored of what is, arguably, a boring car, there's no point throwing cash at it. Save the money and get something exciting when you can afford to.
I don't mean to piss on your chips, but you did ask...

maybe not, but you can roll it in glitter.I agree with Gruber, nothing wrong with selling it and getting something else for the same price!

I've been toying with the idea of getting a new car, but what? Needs to be around £5k, 4 seats, no roof & performance and spec equivalent?

No worries about your comments.

4 seats and convertible will always massively limit choice, even if you count things like a Jag XK8 as a 4 seater rather than a 2+2.I've been toying with the idea of getting a new car, but what? Needs to be around £5k, 4 seats, no roof & performance and spec equivalent?
An M3 convertible is about as fast and fun as you'll likely get, but with the knowledge that it's heavier, slower, less fun and worse on fuel than the hard top version.

E46 330Ci Cabriolet? (or are they still not quite at this price range?)
Given that both cars competed in the same segment and based on experience with the Beemer (although a 323Ci) and the older, inferior version of the 9-3, frankly I can't see it making that much difference in the overall experience on a day-to-day basis (of course, it might be different for the more notorious PH screen 'personalities' who drift their 1.6 tonne four-seater convertibles on every roundabout on their way to Tesc... erm, Sainsbury's
). If a mid-sized four seat convertible is what suits the OP, his is a perfectly decent one. Changing to a suitably different flavour would either mean something smaller & sportier (Elise, Boxster, Z4, S2000) with two seats, something stiffer with a fixed roof and four seats (3-series coupé, 350Z) or something grander & waftier with a soft roof and four(ish) seats (Jag XK).
I'm not bothered about performance - as mentioned above, the Saab does it perfectly well to the day-to-day driver....I don't go everywhere at 300 mph and I'm not really a BMW kinda guy.
Besides, £ / lb, the Saab knocks spots off the equivalent Audi/BMW for kit...I have two-tone leather, all elecs, phone etc.
I'll get a quote for a detail or decent valet, and maybe even a good exhaust system - but with hidden pipes at the minute, there's a bit of work to be done to cut out etc.

What sort of thing are you after, or what about the Saab are you finding boring? If speed isn't a huge issue there are other fun/interesting vehicles that have the potential to make you grin from ear to ear. But they might be somewhat of a left field or non normal offering.Besides, £ / lb, the Saab knocks spots off the equivalent Audi/BMW for kit...I have two-tone leather, all elecs, phone etc.

How is it less fun? I always find convertibles more fun than tin tops, being exposed to the elements makes it a much more involving experience.TameRacingDriver said:

But compared to the fixed roof coupe version of the M3 it is dynamically inferior in every regard.
