58 plate VW Golf, Whats this and how to connect an I-phone?

So the OH's car has this connector in the centre console, clearly some kind of audio interface, what cable or adapter do I need to make her I-phone work with it?

its a docking station for an ipod. Can you not just plug your phone in and use the stereo to make calls?

Audio only, and you need a male-female adapter to work with it. I've got the same on my golf - you plug it in and then press CD and then you get to listen to all of your songs/playlists played in alphabetical order!



It's a rubbish system, might be better getting a female to 3.5mm jack cable like this as you won't have an aux-in (plug the female end into the car and the 3.5mm into the ipod/iphone)

I think she wants it mainly for music, couldn't get the I-phone to fit, seemed to be a different connector?! I'll have another play with it at the weekend then and see what I can figure out!

The plastic thing slots out so you should have more room to fit an i-phone in but you won't be able to fiddle with it. When you connect it with the male-female it just says "accessory connected" and won't let you do anything with the phone/ipod, the only way you can interact with it is by the car interface that lets you choose 1 of 6 playlists which the car interprets as "tracks".

If you get a female-3.5mm jack it'll just play the audio like it would with an aux-in
