Dear PHers,

I was a little surprised to see Jaguar testing something mostly wrapped up on the M6 today. It had an XK's rump but I thought was a little too short, but if they've unveiled the F Type then why are they still testing stuff under wraps?

Yours,

F Type.

I've seen a few mules dotted around (all roadsters) in various states of camo coverings.

Sorry, should have been clear- this was a drop top that I saw.

So now the F-Type's revealed, why are they still disguising the mules? Or is it that it's too much hassle to remove masking from mules that already exist?

Mules are typically that, a cobbling together of various parts.

They wouldn't want pople to see an unfinished car on the road. Plus, it gives people something to talk about wink

They keep the disguises on, some of the earlier ones the disguises are mounted through body panels.

Would these be the 'camouflaged mules' that have the F Type web address written on the doors? wink

Not quite a full web address:

Wrapped up in what?
If it was wrapped up in some white vinyl then it'll just be an unregistered car getting PDI'd by a dealer. The vinyls there to protect the paint.

No, not all wrapped up in Vinyl. Some swirly camouflage wrap in black and white around the nose cone, some exposed (blue) XK panels, some thick black padding.

Definitely did not have "Search F Type" plastered all over it. hehe

Another reason is that there might be trim diffences between models/countries. They would have been testign the more powerful version at the same time, and probably the 2016 facelisted version too. Then there might be the F-type with the gas turbine technology from the CX-16

According to the write up in Autocar this week that would be the V6, the V8 has exhausts nearer the sides with the V6 having central ones.

The one I saw had twin exhausts coming out of the back, but the outlets were towards the sides of the back of the car, if that makes sense.

Actually looks far better like this than the non camouflaged cars
