Help - boot jammed closed

I've somehow managed to jam my car's boot closed. I shut it and the arm of a shirt in the boot got caught in the latch. Now the boot will not open for love nor money. I can hear the electric release clicking but not engaging. The car thinks the boot is open. This is a new shape 1-series.

The shirt sleeve can't be removed.

Any ideas?

Hatchback or coupe? If hatch, take out parcel shelf, wap the trim off and manually do it with a screw driver. Well, that's the way to do it with my ZR.

Can you reach the inside of the boot somehow? I think in many modern cars there is a manual release handle in case somebody is trapped inside.

Yep hatch and I can get inside but no release button or any obvious way of getting at it with a screwdriver.

OP - Are you still WEARING the shirt, by any chance?

The boot release is in the trim, look for a piece of plastic on the left hand side if your looking from inside the car.

No it is clipped into the trim and looks like you can hold it between your fingers, it does show you were it is in the manual as i am finding hard to explain what it looks like.

It will be the only thing that looks like it unclips from the trim.

Sounds like the shirt material has fouled on the catch. It's possible it never closed all the way and the mechanism is jammed. I've had similar with poorly lubricated latches and they responded to me bouncing up and down on the tailgate. Feet on the bumper, bum on the spoiler. Just don't let anyone see you By doing this I got it to lock properly and then it unlocked normally.

Just an update - I tried forcing it to close with no success. I even took it fast over a humpback bridge to exert some force on the boot. No luck!

In the end I had to prise open the mechanism with a screwdriver. The shirt has seen better days.

Had this on my Elise S1, proper ballache as they had to drill through the body to release. £500 bill for it!
