I always presumed it was lack of paying attention too.. as if he was reading something on his phone, and then had that pant-filling moment of looking up and realising he was already on his way into the lake.

Any idea if the car was actually written off, or whether it got recovered by Bugatti and rebuilt?

Clearly it's a bit difficult to work out underwater what to attache to but you would think that with an expesive car they'd try to use something soft to tow it to minimise the damage!

I'd have thought it would take some serious damage to write-off a Bugatti. Flood damaged cars have been repaired in the past, I can't think of anything special that would make this irreparable.

You can repair pretty much anything given sufficient time and money, but the cost of new electrics, new interior and possibly new engine (the pillock deliberately left it running whilst in the water) plus all the labour charges is certain to write it off.

The article includes a quote that says he left the engine running for 15mins while submerged, until it killed itself.
