The £10k 3 car garage game!

So, Mr. Hypothetical has £10k to buy three cars- a family car for the wife to do wife/mother duties, but you'll drive it on camping holidays and trips to the in laws; a car for you to commute in, doesn't need to be too practical; a fun car for track days and tinkering with in the garage on mild autumn evenings....

And about £500 can go on a sheddy Triumph Toledo. The one in my back garden will do. £3000 Spare change goes towards making the Tolly into a classic rally / track / road car with a Dolly sprint engine.

£1500 on a BMW e34 540 touring+ £2000 for the full bhuna lpg kit. Daily driver sorted

£3000 on the car with the best possible crash rating for the burd/imaginary kids-probably something like a passat/mondeo or some such

£3500 on a mk2 golf gti track/fast road car.possibly with a 1.8t or 2.0conversion

Although last week, the DC2 (My Wife's) was replaced with a slightly more grown up E46 330i touring. In Black. So now we're panda, rather than white supremacist.

I honestly can't think of a garage that's more suited to our budgets, needs and tastes right now.

Other than my E30 M3 is now worth lots more than that £10k, alone, I have done this (My M3 only cost £4k in 2005)

I have an E36 BMW 328i 4dr for commuting...reasonably fast, a nice drive and cheap enough to run...cost was (effectively) £750

My partner has a Nissan Almera Tino 1.8SE Cost was £400 a few months ago, but it needed tyres and a wiper motor so all in was £750
This is a good car for the school run/holidays as all 3 kids get their own seat in the back and there is enough space for a full set of camping kit as well...it also has a towbar fitted so can pull a caravan when needed.

My E30 M3 cost £4k back in 2005...it had a £3.5k engine rebuild and around £1k in suspension and another £500 exhaust...

However, if I was buying a track car now, I'd choose an E36 M3 at <£5k with the remoaing £3.5K of the budget going on track mods...
