VIC and Cat D question...
Discussion
Looked at a car earlier and on the V5 it said it had had a VIC, about 18 months ago. Now does this mean it will have been a write off and maybe a cat D?
Car had clearly had front and rear end work (paint on bonnet and boot clearly different shades)
I'm curious and the seller didn't disclose this too me until i'd made a 100 mile ish drive! Needless to say I walked but curious to know what the car "is"?

VIC is purely about identity to ensure the original car hasn't been ringed. The check isn't about road worthiness or whether it's been well repaired. It's assigned to a car in the event it's written off economically but can be repaired to be mechanically sound to put back on the road- on that basis, more likely the car was a Cat C

private seller does not have to disclose anything,(dealer does) you need to ask.
I meant to know and not tell somebody BEFORE they do a 200 mile trip and then tell them within a few seconds of arriving. I am aware he doesn't "have to disclose" but as it says it on the log book he comes across as a nob by not being honest up front!sassanach0 said:

before you travel 200 miles what questions do you ask ?
I ask oh lets see now. Is it a cat C or Cat D write off ever ?
then later I ask for the reg number, because "I need to get an insurance quote" and then I phone VOSA on thier FREE number and ask if there are any markers on it.
Oh yes lets be sarcastic, constructive, tI ask oh lets see now. Is it a cat C or Cat D write off ever ?

t.How can HE have missed it, it's on the front of the V5 which he's had for 18 months and must have looked at when composing his advert on eBay but he "suddenly" only notices when I arrive.
