They definitely depreciate, so what's the cheapest for sale now and how much further do you think they will drop?

I think like most cars of their ilk they will drop to around 50% of initial value as the novelty wears off before slowly picking up again as they move to classic status.

Production was slated to be over 300 vehicles which is quite a lot compared to 75ish road going Mclaren F1s.

Ignoring a Dubai listed one as to bring it into Europe would cost more than the price difference... this is the cheapest one I can see - http://suchen.mobile.de/auto-inserat/bugatti-veyro...

The price of the Veyron seems hard to judge to me - the massive running costs make it extremely hard to work out where the price is going to go.

They will never drop below £100k, or they will be written off with a single years running costs hehe

I saw this the other day, RM Auctions will be auctioning one on October 31st 2012. The listing has an estimate of £440,000 - £560,000 which I thought was relatively low.

the 20 grand tyres have a real impact on the cars desirability, especially as it can knock them out on 2k miles if you are fond of the loud pedal smile

the rarer supersport and vitesse supersport also marginalise the normal version

Surely it will go for more? Even to the trade. As an unused car that's a "come and get me" estimate if ever I saw one.

Still a massive hit for the owner though, having never driven it anywhere!

As for the infamous tyres, I'm sure they'll be some cheapo Chinese copies available soon.

Good lord, it's a narrow market, given the servicing and other implications. I imagine they won't move much, just staying in private collections forevermore.

I wonder what the story behind that car is

Highly unlikely. It is a metric tyre and therefore totally unique to the Veryon. Your best hope to cheap tyres would be a set of custom made wheels to suit an appropriate size standard tyre. But then you'd have to find a suitable speed rating.

This would seem the sensible option. Aftermarket wheels and tyres for normal use and keep the oe items for the silly times.

Also, when/if someone builds a new "World's Fastest Car" I'm sure there will be a number of owners or potential buyers who would no longer be interested in owning the car.

Unlike the McLaren F1 I don't think it has the race winning pedigree or overall dynamics to ensure long term desirability.

Not cheap enough for 99.9% of us to ever worry about.

If you used any tyre other than original fit the car would be modified. Any after market tyre would not be rated at a high enough speed, thus potentially voiding any insurance cover. Of course even if you could get insurance cover you could never use the car as intended. So you may as well buy another car.

All in all, VW have you over a barrel ready for a shafting of titanic proportions.

I believe they have unique hubs, so no aftermarket wheels will fit.

Last car to sell through a UK auction was at £625k and has been for sale for a while for less.

Don't forget the premium - 12%. That will be factored in to what the buyer is prepared to bid.

Bear in mind that they cost an impossibly huge amount to run - they're still depreciating, and even if you can swallow that you could well be looking at £100k per year to run it (that's if you actually do any miles in it)

OK, so we know the tyres are silly expensive (c.£20k per set), but every three/four tyre changes you're supposed to change the wheels. At another £20k+.

Then you'll need a warranty - another £40k per annum

And a service - that's another £20k or so, depending on if it's a big one or not.

Makes almost anything else seem really, really cheap. And I include an F1 in that. In fact, you could probably buy and run an actual f1 car and do a decent number of track sessions for less than a Veyron.

I'm incredibly impressed that VW built it, but if even multi-millionaires can't afford to contemplate one, I'm not sure who'll have one in, say, five years. Perhaps it'll languish like the mostly unloved EB110 (which is far rarer - fewer than 100 were built).

No aftermarket wheels sold at your local corner shop maybe but I'm sure if you presented a wheel to Compomotive or Speedline they would measure and cut some nice bespoke ones for not a lot. Wheels for my Esprit were about £550 each from Lotus but Comp did a pair for that, in the colour I wanted and they were/are a lot tougher rims.

The Veyron seems to be quite competent for its speed, but perhaps a bit too competent.

Like alot of modern cars it seems to be a matter of get on with it rather than enjoy it.
It seems its no longer the new thing, so its not quite the status symbol it was at its launch which together with the huge running costs becoming known its not quite the car you want for thrills and it would probably be better to invest in a private jet if you go across europe in it all the time.

Realistically unless you want to break every speed limit everywhere a nice S-class would ferry you around nicely, with the savings you could get a driver to ferry you round europe and have a ferrari in one destination and a lamborghini in the other and still have some change. The service costs would probably be around a tenth of the veyron as well per car. So its a pretty hard car to sell i would have thought.
