Some new rubber

I'm looking to replace the tyres on my mx5 and have found a few tyres that may be suitable, was hoping for some comments from people far more knowledgeable than me and/or people's experiences with any brands mentioned.
The tyres I am looking at are; Avon zv3, Kumho Solus KH17, Toyo CF1, Falken Ziex ZE-912.
Obviously there are lots of other tyres that are better but this is my list of possible tyres so far.

My Mrs has an MX5 mk 2.5, I often take for a good run so its not strictly pampered all the time :-) From new it came with Firestones so that's what we replaced them with. Good price and they perfrom nicely, seem to be lasting well too.

14" or 15" wheels?

More choice on 15" wheels. I have 14" and went for Dunlop Fast response. They're excellent.

Size and price, we might be able to recommend something better.

Of the bunch listed, I'd pick the Falken or Avon, but neither would be my first pick if it's a popular size.

Just replaced the rear tyres on SWMBO's MX-5 with a couple of OEM fitment Yokohama Advan A11As. Really good tyre that was apparently developed in conjunction with Mazda for the MX-5. Good grip, wet or dry, and rears lasted nearly 30k miles - fronts still have 4mm tread on at 30k miles - OK so she doesn't drive like she stole it but still pretty good mileage.

What size? I was stunned to find uniroyal rain experts and rain sports in195 50 15 for 37 quid a pop recently. And brilliant this time of year tbh.

Sorry, didn't put the obvious in my post. Size is 185/60 R14. Working with about £45 a corner, bit of a budget on the mazda at the minute

Have these on my car (well, now only 3, thanks to a nail). It's a lot heavier/bigger admittedly, but can't fault the tyres, superb grip wet or dry.

I've heard good things about Federal SS595 - best post in the MX-5 sub-forum for more informed opinions.

As someone above mentioned, the Dunlop Street Response are a great little tyre, and less than £40 a corner here ( http://lovetyres.com/tyre/Dunlop-Street-Response/1... ). I put a set on the girlfriends KA and have been very impressed with them compared to all the other tyres I've tried.

Federal ss595 are my favourite bduget tyre I have ever tried. Absolutely fantastic IMO better than 912's by a long way.

My car had four of these, pretty new, on it when I got it. Took a while to wear them all out but observations were: they're generally a reasonable tyre in both wet and dry. However, when they come down to <3mm they start to tram-line badly and are horrendous in the wet. I'm basing this on all four being on the front at some stage as they reached the end of life. Just my experience and maybe a car/tyre combo effect but I replaced the first pair with Michelin Pilot Sport 3's and will get another couple when I put my summer tyres back on next April.

I had Ziex 912's on an old car I had. I didn't like them as much as the FK452's I had before (or, incidentally am running now). They were good tyres, just not as good as the FK452's.

These and their bigger brother the Rainsports are cracking all-rounders and finding great favour on 5s, where they are increasingly replacing T1Rs as the "default" choice.

Well the Mazda got treated to it's new rubber, went with the Falken's as I got them for £30 a corner.

love the Toyo CF1, its such a stable progressive good behaving tyre.
