Autoglass recommended we change our wipers every year!!

Yep, according to their latest radio ad it's recommended that wipers are changed every year. Can't imagine where this comes from and I doubt any vehicle manufacturer does it as the norm at an annual service. How can they get away with this nonsense or am I not changing mine regularly enough?

Depends on miles and usage but I change my wipers every two years and they normally need it - I don't do that many miles either

To be honest i change mine probably roughly once a year. Keeps them working excellently and reasonably cheap.

Mine seem to get buggered every winter. But that's probably because i used them as a scraper.

Who's got Bosch wipers????


Ever noticed the little yellow triangle?? If so it means your wipers are out of date/seen too much sun. The yellow triangle is only exposed after so much time in the sunlight.





Considering most drivers don't check their bulbs work do you think they check their wiper blades? Sensible advice in my mind.

Roughly every year for me although the blades on my Saab 9-5 that I bought in May will probably need replaced soon.

The little yellow triangle thing is correct.

It is recommended (by manufacturers too) that you change wipers every year, and some cheap ones you actually will need to change that often - but I would hope to get two years at least out of good-quality blades.

Confession: on my last car, I never changed the front wipers. In two and a half years. I have no idea how long they were on there before I bought it. I did use Rain-X* however, and worked perfectly right up to when I sold it.

Ironically on my current car, I fitted new blades quite quickly, and despite being Valeo OEM items, they make a horrid noise as they skip over the (Rain-X'd) screen. I'm glad I kept the ones I took off, they may go back on!

*Despite my strong feelings against 'Brake', the product works very well so I still buy it.

I normally end up changing mine every year, at the start of winter, otherwise I find they don't clear very well

Seems reasonable to me. I change mine every 6 months or so - it's hardly the most expensive or complicated thing you could do to a car

I use silicone blades. Not had to replace them yet.

As others have said, it seems reasonable enough to me, and as a high mileage chap, it is about as often as I change mine.

They've had a bit of extra use this year, with the weather !

Come off it, that little yellow triangle is a sales tool, not a safety feature!

I dont know why but the bmw eats through windscreen wipers, about a set every 6 months.

Funnily enough, I was chatting with a mate about this very subject the other day, and we came to the conclusion that wipers do need changed annually nowadays. We reckon it's the lack of real rubber in them now.

I drive a BMW, what replacements are you using ?

If I use Helfrauds own, then about every 6 months, the Bosch ones annualy or so.

Only the bosch ones actually curve to match the windscreen, in my experience.

To be fair, given the amount of people who I've seen who never change their wipers as it just doesn't cross their mind that the reason they can't see when it rains is because their wipers are knackered, it may be a good idea for Autoglass to do an awareness campaign
