A bus knocked my focus' wing mirror off a few months ago while I was legally parked, we exchanged details and I called up the bus company's insurance company who I had been told will get my car fixed. I (stupidly) assumed that thy would just get it sorted and I wouldn't have any further issues. A month later I get a call from the insurance company saying that they wont be repairing my car since they have two witnesses claiming that I opened my door into the bus which is why it broke my door mirror off. Ignoring the fact that these witnesses must either be made up or have been asked to lie since my door was never opened and it doesn't even make sense that opening a door into a bus would damage the wing mirror and not the door!

I have since replaced the miror myself and wish i hadnt event bothered trying to get them to fix it. My worry now is where do I stand when it comes to my renewal, will this mean that I have an at fault claim? I never went through my own insurance, no pay out was made and they say there was no damage to the bus. I'm quite worried as the last thing I want is a massive hike in my premium!

What did your insurers say when you asked them about this?

Yes you would need to declare it.

The bus companies insurer is likely (most definitely) to have updated the claims underwriting exchange regarding the claim so your current insurer or future insurer will pick up on it at some point.

Most buses are fitted with CCTV. Ask to see it.

The answer is i havent yet.I know this is probably who I should ask, I just didn't want to involve them unless i really had to at the risk of loosing my no claims.

You won't lose your no claims because you haven't claimed. You may get penalised though for declaring you have been involved in an accident despite it not being your fault.

Their version of events is patently ridiculous but you will likely lose out over the next few years with increased premiums. Decision is do you want justice or the the best financial outcome?
