Breakdown cover.

So the time has come for breakdown cover renewal.

I do a lot of driving over various parts of the UK, so the breakdown cover I have will need to include recovery to anywhere within the UK. I'm currently with the RAC, who, if they can't fix it at the roadside, will take me anywhere I want (none of this, we'll take it to a garage first, if not then take you home bullst).

The RAC renewal has come in at £70 (that's without home start, which would be nice I suppose).

Can anyone recommend any other breakdown companies that are cheaper, but still operate the same way?

I have only ever had to call out the RAC once, but they were there within about 15 minutes (the guy was actually parked just over the road and they called him!)

The only other companies I know of are GreenFlag, and The AA so any advice would be appreciated.

If you're getting good service that you're happy with why not stick with the RAC?

@ Scorcher - It's not great having to pay costs myself and claim them back. What if this place doesn't take cards and I have no cash?

The recovery agent will carry a card machine if requested.

You can generally also pay over the phone with whoever Autoaid contacts. I've been with them this year and I've found it very helpful.

I stick with the RAC because their patrol dudes are real mechanics who can fix old cars. They regard towing as a bit of a biff on their reputation and will try to fix the jalope if at all possible. On more than one occasion these blokes have actually improved my car by fixing something else while they are at it, renewing a hose or whatever.

NB, my cars have weird stuff like carburettors, and no computers.

Ahhh, mines one of these new fangled things with 1 million computers. They any good with those?

Underneath, it's still an internal combustion engine with a gearbox and some electrics, so, in many cases, yes.

I got full AA cover for me on any vehicle (excluding Europe) for £110. Which became £60 6 weeks later when Quidco paid out

ETA...got my figures mixed up. £60 cashback made the final price £50. Even better
