Just bought an Audi TT with 140,000 miles on the clock.
2005 55 Reg, 240 Quattro Sport
New Engine at 60(ish) Thousand miles
All servicing by Audi, Full History.
Cost £4000.

Have I done the right thing? Car looks and drives well enough and looks straight with no knocks bangs or rattles.

Have you got the fixed back Recaro buckets and the black roof?

Sounds like a decent buy if it's been looked after.

Pop some pics up so we can have a look...

That sounds suspiciously like my mates car, you didn't buy it from a chap in Northumberland Park by any chance did you? ETA no its not his, his was an 04 plate and 60K miles.

Anyway, I was going to buy it off him, but ended up going for a 350Z instead, which I much prefer. However, I will say this, I've been out for a PAX ride or several with him in his, and they are pretty under-rated cars I think. The engine sounded lovely, and the DSG gearbox was cracking, but it was this I was worried about (failure costing £2k to fix).

Its not the last word in handling finesse, but it is a real world quick car, due to the huge amount of traction, relatively benign handling and a gearbox that can swap cogs before you've even thought about doing it.

I'd say you could embarrass some faster cars in it.

QS is a good buy. FSH by Audi requires some attention (cambelt and water pump in particular). The official service schedule can let it be for too long. Out of curiosity what happened to the old engine? Cambelt failure?

Nope, checked it all out, everything is perfectly fine with it.

Yes, it has the fixed back Recaros and the Carbon Fibre roof.
I think, mechanically, it's been well looked after, body wise it has a few battle scars, but at 140,000 miles, I'd expect little else.

Will post some pics once I have it tomorrow.

Did the Sport get the DSG? I thought the Sport was a six speed manual and the 3.2 V6 was DSG?

They are 'quick' cars on the road though, because they're so stable. Not terribly exciting to drive but definitely something you'd be happy for the wife to have! As I've said elsewhere, I still feel a sad sense of disappointment that my TT 225 was so unreliable. The wife loved it.

Excellent. FSH is by Audi and will be double checking the paperwork tomorrow before putting the money their way.
Not sure what happened to original engine, not really that bothered TBH, but may ask for reference.

Correct baryonyx, it's a 6sp manual box. Fingers crossed this one behaves itself, I've lived with unreliable cars before, but this is going to be my daily hack hehe

His is a V6. Sorry I was unaware of the model designations.

His sounds very nice as well. Apparently its had something removed in the middle of the exhaust to make it louder?

I think personally I'd prefer the V6 DSG over a Sport, as I just think the car itself is more a GT car than a sports car.

Same here. A colleague of mine has a TT V6 and it does sound pretty nice. The 1.8T engines are way too quiet in standard guise, they definitely need some better exhausts on them. The V6 with some silencing removed sounds good. As long as you're not doing loads of long drives in it.

Personally, I never quite got the Sport model. The thing I prized in the TT was it's style, and it's ability to effortlessly cover distance. The plush interior (a tad dated now but still nice) just adds to that whereas the Sport ditches most of that in favour of hard seats and an alcantara wheel! I never found the TT that sporty anyway.

Though Al sounds really happy with it, so I wish you all the best with the new car!

Join the TT forum. There's not much the boys & gilrs over there don't know about them. They have reliable weak points - dash pods, drop links, thermostats, DSG mechatronic units, roll bars but nothing other than the DSG problem that should put anyone off.

They have a reputation for not living up to their looks but even though they are a bit dull down in the 150 - 180 end of the range, the QS is a great drive & when all's said & done they're screwed together very well.

I should note that in a few years when the wife's Vauxhall is older I will probably source a decent cheap TT for her since she has always wanted one of her own, most likely a 225.

Baryonyx, I understand what you're saying about the sport not really being a sports car as such, but it's got a bit more poke than the 225 and is quite a chunk lighter, hopefully it will be a bit more fun, as mentioned in the local thread, it's also purchased for my other half to try driving something quick, hopefully it'll be a good car for her to "learn" on as it should be forgiveable if anything goes pear-shaped.

My mates is pretty unflappable so yes it would be a forgiving car to drive. If I tried to drive my 350Z like he drives that I'd probably end up in the nearest hedge.

I always found them quite prone to understeer. The 4wd system is Haldex controlled, so certainly the 180 & 225's are for the most part fwd cars. Not sure if it's the same for the V6 or QS.

The V6 is Haldex as well. My mate says it is a bit front led.
