odd driving...

Dropped the OH and her mate off in leeds, driving down m62 towards halifax in the stty 50mph limit. 2 cars infront of me in lane 1; the guy directly infront of me pulled into lane 2 causing me to go to lane 3 to overtake. Fair enough right? After i overtook he went back to lane 1. The car infront of him was travelling faster anyway so why he pulled out i have no idea!?

Oh and i saw a middleaged bloke in his a4...... With the roof down...... At 6 degrees wrapped in a hoody with the hood up

Can't comment on the first incident, but when in the Elise I had the roof down if it wasn't raining (and sometimes if it was!) Good on him!

And..... A stupid blonde sat doing 40 in a 50 in the second lane so i couldnt overtake

I didn't really understand the scenario, maybe I will after re-reading a few times...

But driving a convertible with the roof down in cold weather is fun. What I didn't quite understand this morning was the bloke with the nice Impreza Turbo who was driving around with a big coat and woolly hat on...and the windows down?! I can only imagine the windows stopped working after a trip to the golden arches for a breakfast mcmuffin...

If you think I didn't drop the roof that day you'd be wrong. Heated seats and fans on max heat made for one happy driver

Granted it took a little while to be sure it was thawed....




ETA - if anyone's wondering whether a Z4 3.0i on Wintrac tyres is fun when driven on compacted snow and ice covered car parks... IT IS

Nope, that's quite warm in fact. I keep a Russian style fur hat in the car for the properly cold stuff when it's snowing etc. The only time I really don't like having the roof down is during hail stones, they bloody hurt! Rain passes over at anything over about 30mph, hail still hits you at 60mph+ and just hurts more.

It's amazing how many of my friends didn't realise this, even in a torrential downpour I stayed dry(ish) at 70mph, but drop below 40mph in my case and it was time to get the hood up...

I'm short so it helps me avoid the rain at lower speeds Although at over 70mph it does a funny swirly thing around the side windows and aims drops straight into my ear.

I always prefered driving with the roof down in the rain, it was only during the rare heatwaves that I had a problem with the weather. Sunstroke is an experience that I never want to repeat and I never have a cap in the car when I need it.
