My neighbours new car

I've lived in the same house for 12 years. Terraced street, with only on street parking.
Almost directly opposite lives an older lady. When we first moved in she owned a red Nissan Micra Mk1. Over the years she must have hit every carpark bollard, wall and lampost in the world. Eventually it ended up without a straight panel on it. As she never washed it, it faded to a lovely pink colour.
About 6 years ago she traded it in for a red Nissan Micra Mk2. Again this suffered the same slow, painful death by a thousand cuts. Every panel staved in, bumpers hanging off and paintwork faded to pink. The kids call her "basher" as she parks by touch, has no clutch control, mounts the kerb at any opportunity.
It's so bad we don't park on that side of the street anymore.
Yesterday she came home in a red Nissan Micra Mk3. It's in really good condition, bright red, glossy paintwork, straight bodywork, wheel trims that haven't been gound against the kerb.
Poor car, it doesn't know what is in store for it.

It's just norms treating cars like the disposable white goods they are. using it for 6 years until its tatty then buying a new one of the same model! If I was rich/stupid enough to know id keep my car until it died I'd prob let it get f
ked upto! Indeed I wish I could let myself live that freely! In a way I envy that of biddy. Oh well out with my two buckets to wash and wax the motor again!

on me.It's difficult when you have mechanical sympathy to watch someone destroy a car over time. But ultimately if they don't care and it's their money, why should we? It's not like an E Type's being destroyed here; Micras are like automotive white goods.

Some people are like that. Its very Southern European. There's a lovely couple in our road, she's Italian and he's French. Everyone else has at least one nice car in the road, maybe two. Merc Estate, BM touring, RR, X5, Cayenne type place. Marc and Lara always have a knackered old French supermini and an equally knackered mini MPV (currently a Clio and a Touran) that they just drive into the ground and then replace. Everyone knows not to park anywhere near them. They think owning a car that you (a) spend a lot of money buying and (b) spend time and money looking after is completely bonkers.ked upto! Indeed I wish I could let myself live that freely! In a way I envy that of biddy. Oh well out with my two buckets to wash and wax the motor again! 
Slightly different, but I always buy cheap cars at the end of their life and actively run them into the ground. I have another car I look after properly too, but having something you can brail park and drive into things for fun is better. Last weekend I got it stuck driving up a sand dune, grounded it out jumping a bridge and ran over a brick lying in the road rather than swerve around it. Its fun not being hung up on 'what ifs'.
