Peugeot 106/ Citroen Saxo Rear Brakes

I appreciate this probably isn't the perfect section for this but the specific sections get very little traffic.

So, I've got a 106 that needs the rear drum brakes adjusted due to the self adjusters not self adjusting for what ever reason.

After a bit of fiddling I have managed to push the ratchet out a lot, possibly as far as it goes, but it has made zero difference. I was aiming to have the shoes just rubbing the drum but when you spin the drum there is no resistance at all and there is still free travel on the footbrake as it takes up the gap between the shoe and drum just as there was before.

I am baffled, I have either done something quite wrong or the mechanism is simply not working correctly. Where do I start?

Or perhaps your at the limit of adjustment and need new brake shoes... ?

I should have mentioned, there's plenty on the brake shoes.

You will probably find that the adjusters are worn out where they thread inside each other and as you put the drums back on they just close up. you need to take the whole lot to bits and check.

Are you so sure seeing as you can't workout how a self adjuster works which is hardly complex???

Highly unlikely with those weedy little drums,the OP has obviously done something wrong but without a picture its impossible to tell.
In future take one side apart at a time then if you do fk up you have a reference.

All sorted, for what ever reason it was just sticking so far along its teeth, so it seemed as if it could be adjusted no further, done now. Been one of those days.
