Help on Insurance/SORN?

Righty I'm going have to quote two posts to give an idea if the situation:

I own 2 cars, both stboxes sat on the street while uninsured but taxed.

Legally you now apparently have to have vehicles insured to be on the road taxed unless they're SORN'd.

So I have 2 cars causing no harm sat on the street obstructing nothing, although I can't insure either because all insurance companies I've spoken to have asked for proof of my licence (for convictions etc) and I don't get mine back until the middle of January.

DVLA letter came yesterday saying my 306 tax is showing uninsured on askMID and I now owe a 100quid fine and can SORN it or let them take it away. I called them, informed them and they will only take an 'appeal' in writing. Great.

So since they've taken my licence I can't insure, I can't SORN because where they are on the street is the only space I have for them, until they're sold and driven away.

I have since sold 1 car.

Righto, this took a turn possibly for the worst for me this morning.

I'm in the process of waiting for an email from insurance companies about whether they require me to hold a valid driving licence to insure a vehicle..

This morning some traveller idiot down the street reversed passed my car without issues, it's tucked nicely away against a fence. It's got no reg plates and a tarpaulin over it, still taxed and tested.

The bright spark in his transit goes past, doesn't alter direction at any point even after getting 20yards away, then *crunch* he writes off the posh neighbours spanking new focus. He shouts a bit, excuses himself and drives off after swapping info.

Then his misses comes knocking on my door, demanding I move my car because it's caused them to crash. I pause, repeat her sentence back to her, and laugh.

She get's uppity about how it shouldn't be there and I point out I've parked cars there daily for 18months, no issues. I say a taxed car is supposed to be on the street.
She demands I put it on the drive, I point to my fathers which is already blatantly sat there 2 foot from my doorstep and then she wanders off saying she's calling the police to have it removed. I tell her it's not my fault they weren't watching where they were going and to go ahead.


Now, my car at this point isn't insured still, because I can't get 'legal' insurance by conventional means.

Can they have it towed off while taxed?

The MIB site only states stuff about registered keepers, do I still qualify as one as the car's legal owner or not because I don't posses a licence and can't drive?

I suppose I need to ask from the perspective of someone who's very stupidly gone and bought a car (lets say for learning to drive) but hasn't yet got their licence.

Any thoughts?

Not insured, shouldn't be parked on the street unfortunately.

As for her moaning about it aparently causing their accident tell her to go whistle.

A vehicle which is being used on a road or other public place requires valid insurance.

And note that a vehicle is being used even when parked up and unattended.

Hm, so I gotta actually finish off the remainder of the head work and get it gone..

It might be an idea to get the vehicle off the road sooner rather than later - could you not swap it with your dad's car for a few days ?

If someone really does contact the police about your vehicle, you may well find it being seized / towed away, with further action being considered against you.

You might get in hot water for removing the plates as well.

My dads car is on the drive SORNd itself, suffering 2 blown headgaskets.

The plates are removed to prevent theft.
