2ND SERVICE NOT AT MAIN DEALER....

General opinion and consensus if you will...
... so I am looking at a few cars to buy. One particular car has had two services to date. The first was at a main dealer, the second was not. Car is coming up to four years old. CBS (condition based servicing) so 2nd was only made in August this year at about 28k. The non franchise dealer selling the car has offered to get it serviced by a main dealer before selling to me to satisfy any fears i may have, the car now has about 32k miles.
What do you think? Would this put you off buying the car? Has the fact the dealer has offered to get it serviced at a main dealer only a few months after the last service put things back in check?

It's already 4 years old, service it well, keep the paperwork and it won't matter where its been serviced as long as nothings been overlooked to a sensible buyer. robdcfc said:

It does help if you want goodwill on a car that suffers a massive failure just outside the warranty period though. As its out of that period now the only thing that would stop me buying it would be if it was a similar price to one with a FDSH and a manufacturer backed used car warranty.

To add confusion to the matter - it does also currently have a manufacturers (extended) warranty on it at present (expires this week), I wonder if this is now nul and void because of the last service? I have the option to extend this warranty before it expires... but not sure if it valid now.

First, what kind of independent? Specialist, well known, or under the arches job?
If the latter, walk.
If not, then I'd look at two or three things, two easy, one less so.
The first two would be the make of the oil filter and the tyres, the other would be the brake pads.
If they are OEM I'd not be too bothered but a pattern filter and brakes and budget tyres would tell me to look for a better car.
It's not asi f there aren't plenty of 28K milers with perfect histories.
