GAP insurance...

Anyone ever take this out when buying a new car? And anyone know if it's worth it?? Asking on behalf of my girlfriend who's just bought a new motor and the dealer is giving it the 'you won't get your money back through normal insurance if it gets nicked/written off etc'...

There was a topic about this a while ago and opinion differed. I'd say it is worth it, parents didn't have it previously, car got written off, "lost" around 6k because of it. Won't go without it now.

Like any insurance, valuable if you need it.

But buy it online (From a reputable company), it's far far cheaper usually.

I have managed to get 2 different friends gap insurance free from the dealership. Included within the deal. It's worked at ford and vauxhall. The best thing to do is tell her to wait until the .astnweek of the month. They will pretty much give you what you want to eat a deal done to hit there targets.

Deal is already done and the car was collected on Friday. Car was ordered (and deal sorted) back in June and we've waited this long for the car to be built. To be fair the deal I got her was very good anyway (I spoke to 6 different dealerships, the first 5 telling me there's no way I'd get the deal I was looking for!) until we ordered it from the 6th who did everything we asked, and to be fair they've been one of the best dealerships I've ever dealt with. Then when we collected on Friday they tried to sell us GAP insurance for £550! I know they make a massive margin on this sort of thing so said no... then he said what if he could knock £100 off! Just goes to show how much they're making if they can just knock that much off without batting an eyelid. So we said we'd think about it and let him know. Hence why I'm asking opinions on here!

I believe the advice is never, ever pay for it from a dealer but do get it direct from specialists - there are companies that will do this and I should expect the price to be massively different!
