Car was clouted in a car park the other day, wife was in the car so we have all the details, other party said "It's only a scratch" rolleyes So far managed to wind the claims assistance people back in from taking it away and giving me a hire car and if I have to say no there weren't any injuries one more time....furious

Going to get a couple of quotes and go from there. So how much to fix do people think? Probably couldn't have clouted a worse bit of the car

MkIV Golf?

Has it touched the door as well? I can't tell from the photo. In any case it looks like a new panel might be needed so it'll probably be quite expensive.

ETA, just checked your profile and it looks like I was right, it is a mkIV Golf.

Half that unless you want the whole rear quarter cut away and replaced.

Not sure if you can just pop on a new panel there, think it might be part of the whole shell. Will be a case of pulling it a bit possibly, filling it and spraying. Certainly a few hundred +, won't be on the 'minimum charge' I wouldn't have thought. Wouldn't say £900 either (agree with the above).

It really depends on where you take it and the level of repair that you require smile

I know it's your car, not mine, it's your pride and joy. But... I wouldn't bother. The cost of repairing that is a huge proportion of the value of the car. Mentioning it to insurance will lift your next premium whether its your fault or not. It's unsightly, sure, but it's ultimately no big deal.

The rear quarter will repair, but strip and refit rear bumper and rear quarter fittings, respray same, blend into adjacent panels etc and it'll end up there or there abouts, assuming the repair is done to an insurance standard.

£500 should see that looking quite tidy again at a decent bodyshop. As above, a new panel there will be a big job... repair will be sufficient.

I did similar damage to my Fiesta ST after a small meeting with a barrier on track.

It went into the bodyshop locally and cost less than £300 to have it fixed (Along with a small dent on the front bumper). It looked like new - and I'm picky about these things!

Insurance company already know, I know it's probably not worth repairing will look at getting a payout that incudes keeping the car as is I guess. Unless they deem it repairable, its a 1999 car with 220k on the clock. Worth more to me as it's LPG and cheap to run.

I am aware it's likely to affect my premium next year but can't see it being that much

In that case, I'd recommend speaking directly to the insurers of the party who hit you. They will probably send out one of their own engineers to assess the damage and price up the cost of repairing it. At that stage, you could approach them to ask them for a payment in lieu of you having it repaired. You pocket the money and decide whether you want to repair it or not.

Market value is just that, the price they sell for. Take a look on autotrader and ebay etc for similar cars

Ouch, is that for a repair or a new panel and paint?

I thought expensive but not that expensive.

silly

Now go find somewhere cheaper, and take 'cash in liu' from your insurance company as suggested up there ^

Its repair not replacement.

I'm thinking get money settlement and keep the car and run it as it is. I'll make it look as good as I can and leave it. I've come round to the fact it's not worth repairing but is worth keeping - I don't have money to buy another car right now.

The right garage will make that look 'presentable' for less than £500 probably. The paint match might not be perfect, nor the shape of the wheel arch etc and the bumper might be touched in rather than resprayed, but most people won't notice and you'll be less conscious of it.
Present your quotes to your insurance company, take cash in liu, and spend the £450 difference on something nice.
