Unconventional Weekend Toy - less than £1k

I've accidentally ended up in a boring car and I need something I can enjoy....

To give you an idea of the sort of thing I like, I've looked at;
-VW Sandrails (too expensive)
-Quad Bikes (mostly crap)
-MotoX Bikes (very few road legal for less than £1k)

I don't mind a project, although anything that's going to cost another £1000 to make roadworthy wouldn't be an option. I can drive cars and bikes, so I'm open to suggestions for both. Ideally I'd like something unusual/unconventional - I know I could get an MX5 or MR2 for this money, but I simply want something a bit more mental.

Any ideas?

Buy a cheap as chips 4x4 (old Suzuki, Pajero etc) and join a local 4x4 club.

Something to do at the weekend and meet new people at the same time.

probly not bonkers enough, but fiat coupe 20v turbo's are just in budget if you shop around.though surely if you can ride bikes you get alot more bang for your book with those.

As far as four-wheeled stuff goes, the kit car section of the classifieds is your friend!

You could get a Dutton Phaeton and stick a scarily big engine in it.

You could get a Sylva Leader (probably), which is very nearly as ugly but actually goes round corners.

Agree the Fiat coupe sounds like fun. Get one with a nice leather interior, strip it down as far as practically possible, sell all everything on fleebay, buy a pair of bucket seats, plastic windows etc. Then drive it to track days.
