Just a bit of fun for a mid-week evening. Imagine you have a hypothetical budget of £35k to spend on three cars, something practical, a sports car and a hot hatch. What would you buy? You can distribute the funds as you see fit. Pictures please and you can only use real examples (so no hypothetical £20k Ferraris).

Here's my pick.

It's a bit old now and possibly a bit over-valued but my perfect family car would be this Audi RS2 Avant (possibly the coolest estate car ever and in the best colour) - £14000

I can't really make my mind up about 911s. Not the best looking, fastest or best value sports car but possibly the best all-rounder? I know the 996 is where bargains are to be had but the looks really don't do anything for me. The 964 series seems to be the next best value and one of my favourites aesthetically. My ideal spec would probably be Guards red with cream leather but this blue Carrera 2 looks quite tempting for £16000.

Finally my hot hatch (the hardest to pick for me). Quite tempted by an Abarth 500 or MINI Cooper JCW (newer) or a Golf GTi 16v or Type-R of some description (older) but I still have a bit of a thing for these (my first quick car). Again, this seems quite a lot for a 20 year old Peugeot but it seems unmolested, a decent colour and not ridiculously overpriced - £4000.

So thats £34000 all in. I wasn't intending on having 3 blue cars but that's just the way that it worked out! Gauntlet thrown down. Do you think you can beat that combination without straying over budget?

For me I think the practical car and the hot hatch would be the same car, say a 5k Octavia VRS, leaving me 30k to spend on an Evora. smile

Fair enough, although personally I wouldn't classify a Skoda as a great hot hatch. Too heavy, too many doors etc. A 205 GTi is an awesome hot hatch but there's no way that I would take my 3 month old daughter out in it and its too small to be a practical family vehicle for me, hence the RS2!smile

No nor would I - it's in fact a fairly poor hot hatch; but if I had a good sports car and a hot hatch, I'd never drive the hot hatch. smile

Well the sports car is easy

£15K on this

The hot hatch never been a great fan of them so go for a couple of grand on a fabia VRS diesel

But i would also want trailer for the caterham so thats another grand or two which leaves me with about £15000

And i would need something practical to tow the caterham around with

So i'm thinking something german and 4x4

Looks practical to me

it has a crane how more practical could you want

Hot hatch - Mk 4 Volkswagen Golf GTi. I really like these and I found this one for £900.

Sports car - I've got £33,100 left. I'll take an Aston Martin V8 Vantage then.

I hope I can spend some of the extra cash on the cars - mainly the MG.

Not sure on this because I like DB7s and XKs and many others and REALLY wanted a classic - maybe pre-war.
Might have another crack and spend less on the practical car.
