Models you rarely see in petrol.

With the relentless march of the diesel engine, I've noticed that there are certain models that are rare in petrol versions.

The first one is my own car, the Insignia, also petrol versions of the Focus and Mondeo, are thin on the ground.

What others do you only ever see in diesel?

The Mondeo and most of its competitors.

Had a friend recently looking for a largish petrol family car and it was astonishing how few there were to choose from.

Any Audi S-Line

BMW 1 series, most I see tend to be diesels

VW Bora and Passat. Especially Bora.

Agree with any Audi S-Line above.

I think a thread entitled "models you often see in petrol" would be rather shorter.

Agree with any Audi S-Line above.

The Passat definitely, the Bora not so much. I regularly see VR6 and V5 models running around but they are outnumbered by the Diesel versions.

BMW 1/3/5 series.

full fat range rovers younger than 2 years old. all 4.4 diesels, as running the 5.0 must be ruinous even if you have a few quid!

Most Renault's. All new Megane's, Scenic's etc. seem to be diesel. A shame when their 1.2TCe petrol is pretty good.

Very hard to find a petrol Passat.

I see quite a few 2.0T A4's, 130i's, 335i's etc around. Can agree with the Mondeo and Insignia though. All Pick-ups pretty much as well.

IIRC, the mk 3 (first of the slope nosed) came with a 1600 4 speed pinto setup, and a 2.0 5 speed pinto

Everything that isn't a proper performance car.

Even the super minis seem to be more diesel.

Umm reckon there are still a good few petrol Focus' and Mondeo's about. Focus especially.



Now a petrol Discovery 4, that is a rare thing
