What to replace a clio 172 with?

Hey guys.
I've got a Renaultsport Clio 172, but I want to buy a brand new car.
I'm after another hot hatch, but what is good enough to replace a clio.
I've looked at the following.
Clio 200 with cup chassis - its got the best repuation for handling, however I find the interior dull.
Vauxhall Corsa VXR - quite lairy looking, got the warrantee, and on 0% finance.
VW Polo Gti - awesome engine, I even liked the dsg box, but the price and the lack of good finance % puts me off.
Fabia vRS - cheaper alternative to the polo, but is it going to disappoint when I throw a corner it's way.
I mostly do commuting in my car, and I like to give them some when going shopping on the weekends lol.
I have been round the Nurburgring in my clio, but I find it difficult to justify buying a car that is brilliant on a track but rubbish everyday, when I don't really do track days.
Or can anyone suggest what else I could look at, I would consider a focus st or toyota gt86 but the price is out of my range really.
Fuel costs aren't an issue as I only have a short ish commute, also there can be an element of stop start traffic for a couple of miles, but not enough yet for me to not want a manual.

This Mini is good, but Clio 200 even better(despite cheaper interior). I would immediately dismiss others if you are a keen driver.Have you thought about a low milage 197?
The 200 is tweaked but you could probably pick a R27 (special edition 197) up for a couple grand less than even early 200's and not notice any if much difference.
/edit, just noticed you said brand new which also puts you out for the 200 as they've stopped taking order IIRC

I don't want an mx5 lol, nice as they are.

You can't get seat Ibiza cupras new at the moment.
The 200 is tempting, but I'm unsure about getting another clio.
A new 1 series at my budget would only get me a 1.8
The mini is nice, but again they are doing stupid finance deals on cooper S

IMO stay away from the VAG 1.4TSI range.
There are number of threads on here about it but basically that engine has quite a few issues including ridiculous oil consumption, the 7 speed DSG box is also prone to issues. Head on over to honestjohn for more info on it, the oil consumption problem specifically is present on the vast majority of the range.
If I was you i'd wait 6 months, we've got the new fiesta ST, new clio (which is a 1.6 turbo with renaults dsg style box which i'm actually quite excited about) and a few others due out, they are the next generation of hot hatches so for the sake of 6 months you may aswell wait and get 1 of them.

The new Renaultsport clio isn't out for ages though, the standard basic models come out in March 2013, and they have no release date for the RS version.
As to the view fiesta ST, we've been waiting long enough for the new model havn't we? and what power /torque spec is it likely to be? And when can we expect it?
As for the VAG TSI range, yes I've read about these issues, but it would have a 5 yr warrantee to cover those issues if they get really bad, although I would start to worry after that period, as I thinking of keeping it for a significant time anyway this may be a future problem. The thing is I was so impressed with the engine and gearbox combo, always on the boost, no lag 7th gear pulls from silly speeds lol.
I want new, so I can get it on finance as I have no money, and they all come with a pretty respectable warrantee nowadays.
The clio 200 is so boring inside, and this is where I'm going to be spending all my time. But is undoubtably the best drivers car out of the cars listed.
The corsa is a bit quiet, I expected it to me more shouty, to match its looks. Although for commuting this may be nice rather than the constant drone of the exhaust in my clio.

Corsa Nurburgring? Gets round corners just as fast as a Clio supposedly though mainly due to the LSD but again don't think you can get them new now...The corsa is a bit quiet, I expected it to me more shouty, to match its looks. Always thought the interiors on Corsas were worse to look at than the Clio tbh.
I'd say neither were particularly pleasant commuters, I've done it in the 200. Best commute ever if you're in the mood, but dreadful after a bad day. Depends how far though as that was 50 miles there and back up and down the A1, I still commute in it now short distance and love it.
I think a Golf would be best as a compromise, aren't they always.....
