What car - Audi A3 vs BMW 1 vs Golf vs Your suggestion..

Evening Peoples and thank you for dipping into this What car thread..

Any opinion welcome and prior experience or wider suggestion definitely welcome!

We're looking at replacing an ageing Astra with a September 2011 or newer car.

Must be 5 doors, manual, petrol, reliable and with a good quality feel to it. We usually hold onto our cars for a a long time so it'd be nice to get this right.

It is for my parents although, like the Astra will be used occasionally by me and my brother so a bit of poke would be nice (say 0-60 under 8) and parked by my mum so something easy to use.

I've been looking at the latest shape 1-series and that looks ugly outside and complicated inside.

The A3 seems a bit bland and uninspiring too.

About as much as I've got out of my mum is that is must have a good turning circle!

So, the floor is open - please suggest away..
