An urgent What Car - need a shed tomorrow!

OK, E39 died today, I have up to £2K to spend but want something that needs no money spent ideally if I buy at that price!

1st option
Jag X-Type, 2.0 V6, nice spec, £2K. I figure this is the most direct replacement for the E39 and means I don't lose the luxury The cons I can see are that its right at top of budget, and a 2.0V6 is going to like a drink but not reward very much?

Old Honda with full history, fugly, but no doubt reliable!

Throwaway priced Vectra, better looking than the Honda, and has a 2.2 engine (if it has no tax then the alternative is a 2.0 at £1,100 with just 38K on the clock.

Ubiquitous Mondeo, I like the look of these a lot, and it'll probably be the cheapest one to run here, but really worth twice the price of the dull Accord with full Honda history?

I concur, but they weren't known for great reliability, still, considerably more interesting than the others.

Anyone got any experience of the 2.0 V6, what's it good for mpg-wise on the motorway at 80mph?

Was just about eeking 30mpg from the E39 at a push but was hoping to use this as a chance to improve things!

Liking the Jag. Does anyone know how good for the autoboxes are in the X-TYPE? Prone to any common / major faults?

Looking around locally there are a couple of other Accords with better spec, although no mention of a full main dealer history...

I suppose I should come clean that after spending hundreds and hundreds on the E39 recently, I want a car that's relatively trouble free!

Fancy a V70 D5? Less than your budget. High ish miles, but should go for another 50-100k without too much issue. I won't post a link as it's against the rules, but it's on the classifieds here.

Yeah, I could get that out of my 2.5 4x4.

Tough motors, I did 40k miles in mine over 3 years and other than a couple of teething problems it did well. I * might * have once managed 300 miles from Plymouth to Tarleton in mine in 3 hours dead such was my upset at being last off the ferry at midnight.

Whenever i've needed a shed i've always gone for a accord, had 3 now actually. Yes they are boring but i've never had any real problems with them and they are quiet, comfortable cars and as no one really wants them they make for good buys.

It's the best I could do within 60 miles of home and less than 100K (yes, yes, I know that 100K+ shouldn't be a problem, but having being burned with every car I've had that was 100K+ I'm skeptical)

If people can find better suggestions I'll gladly look

Had a shed accord, was absolutely reliable. Had a shed Jag, was very reliable but a well looked after car. Loved the jag, didn't love the Honda.
