Appreciate that this has probably been covered to heaven and back but I'm looking for methods, all legal of course, that can be taken to reduce one's insurance bill- I think it's mostly postcode and age that are the problem but I can't seem to get a quote for an MX5 worth a grand for less than 2 thousand. Whereas, a z4m roadster is £2,300 to insure...

I don't even know the point of this post just frustration really, the least offensive of cars to insurers still quotes about £1800, as if there is some sort of watershed mark! I've tried putting relatives on the policy, limiting the mileage, fiddled around with 'parked on street' etc and nothing seems to make a difference. Perhaps there are some specialist brokers that provide for this sort of market, or is it a case of don't drive or just suck it up? Anyone have any suggestions? Got 3yrs NCB, no accidents etc..

This could even turn into a 'what car' type post- looking to spend up to about a maximum of £10-12k, preferably convertible and sporty...

Postcode is B1 and I'm 21 which is probably why I'm having so many problems! weeping

Thanks...

MX5 in a B1 postcode = soft top in a high risk area.

Living there, don't even consider a convertible unless it's a hardtop.

Try putting on business mileage, this reduced my premium last year. (....and before anyone jumps down my throat, I do business mileage......)

Couple of things I guess......

1). Don't drive a girls car.

2). Give Need2Insure a try - 01623 720081.

My E30 M3 just cost £231 fully comp, classic insurance, agreed value.

Age and location are your big problems. With those in mind there is no "least offensive car" as insurance costs are more about the damage you can do with the car than to it.

A £500 snotter will do as much damage as an £800,000 Veyron if you knock someone over at 30mph.

Well, common sense went out the window and man maths prevailed and I bought a convertible that I'm going to park in central Bham and look like a wally while driving around. Oh well! biggrin
