Toyota GT86 this, GT86 that... what about the Subaru?

The GT86 seems to be mentioned more and more on these and other forums, here in Aus they're advertised all over the place too.

Why does no one ever speak of the Subaru version? Is it for some reason, the runt of the litter? Are there massive spec differences?

It'll be interesting to see how used values for each stack up against each other.

It seems to be taking Subaru a lot longer to get their car to market, a shame as I think it's a better looking car than the Toyota.

I test drove a GT86 then went to Subaru. They didn't have a demonstrator and if I wanted one I'd have to wait until March 2013.

From what I remember, the salesman told me they only had a couple of demonstrators for the UK dealers.

I believe he said they are sold all their allocation, which was MUCH less that Toyota.

ETA: Spec differences are tiny. Externally it's just badging and indicators. I've never seen the inside but I expect the same. From what I have read suspension geo is different, but I'm not sure if springs are the same.

Shame the price differences for all cars with different badges toy/sub/Scion varies massively depending on the country/continent, the situation differs from country to country thanks to the huge price difference,there it's a bargain here it's a rip-off.

Front ends are different too, and I think the BRZ's front bumper is a bit more pleasing to the eye. I much prefer it to the GT86, which has a couple of sweeping lines from the bottom of the bumper to the headlights which gives it a different look altogether, along with a different shape aperture around the front plate.

Shame, as it seems Toyota have got the marketing and timing right, and the various comparison reviews suggest the different setup makes the GT86 a better car to drive, it seems.

I saw my first GT86 today in dark blue. Didn't like it. Totally lacks the wow factor.

Ah, you're quite right.

It does seem the reviews lean towards to the Toyota, but without much chance or driving the BRZ I suppose that's all we can go on. Saying that, I was a little underwhelmed with the GT86 so I'm not in a rush to try one...

There was a BRZ at the Britcar 24, I personally couldnt see the difference between it and the GT86's that were parked behind it. Possible rebadged Toyota?

Toyota has a bigger PR operation in the UK, which probably helps.

Also, early indications suggest the slightly softer GT 86 suspension setup is preferred by the road testers.
